Hi, I'm Ben.

For the past 15+ years, I've worked in health and wellness as a personal trainer, nutrition coach, counsellor, and, more recently, a breathwork facilitator. Along the way, I've had the privilege of supporting hundreds of people through stress, burnout, grief, chronic health challenges, and the overwhelm that so often comes with trying to feel better.

But I didn't write 2 Things To Do Today because I have all the answers.

I wrote it because I've lived through seasons where brushing my teeth felt like progress. I've walked through addiction recovery, years of cancer surveillance, divorce, burnout, and rebuilding my life from the ground up.

During those seasons, I didn't need another wellness plan. I needed something simple enough to come back to, even on the hardest days.

One breath.
One kind action.

That quiet rhythm changed my life, and over time it became the foundation of the work I now share with others.

This book is an invitation to find your own rhythm, not through perfection or pressure, but through small acts of care that remind you you're already enough.

I was on @thegoodstuffctv with @mary_berg3 !!! I use to watch her on her show Kitchen Crush back in the day, it was one of my favorite cooking shows! It was an absolute honor to share space with her, and it felt like talking to a friend I had known for years. So many books we come across seem to offer the definitive answer to how we can feel better. Protocols telling us to detox, restrict, track, and grind. And if we burn out, or don’t follow the plan, often the implication is that there is something wrong with us.

Ben Gustafson has spent over 15 years working as a personal trainer, nutrition coach and counselor. And it's Ben's expertise as a facilitator of breathwork that forms the core of his remarkable new book. 2 Things to Do Today - Healing Without the Hustle.

Ben’s philosophy is that meaningful change happens when the body feels steady enough to participate and has enough oxygen to run in an optimum fashion.

The exercises that Ben suggests in the book may be small and not require any equipment but they clear space with every exhale and offer confidence and new energy with each inhale.

We really enjoyed how this book taught us how to work with our nervous system instead of against it.

The book's intuitive layout and Ben’s easy-to-follow framework of 2-minute exercises followed by reflections, mantras and actions instill an immediate sense of calm.

Also refreshing is Ben’s assertation in a chapter entitled Cleaning is Cardio that by taking our breath with us, scrubbing, sweeping and folding are all forms of functional fitness and a nervous system support tool. Effort doesn’t have to be extreme to count.

We also appreciated how the exercises in the book emphasized simple actions, functional breathing, nourishment, and movement that can be sustained easily. One breath to calm your system and one small action to support your body - two things – not five or seven or ten. Just two!

2 Things to Do Today makes getting on the path to wellness as easy as taking a breath. Highly recommended.

I recently had the opportunity to sit down with The Globe and Mail to talk about “2 Things To Do Today”, why I wrote it, and some of the ideas behind the book.

It’s still a little surreal seeing this work make its way out into the world like this. I’m incredibly grateful for everyone who has bought the book, read it, shared it, come to an event, or simply helped spread the message.

We have a funny way of moving the goalpost on ourselves:

You went for the walk, but it wasn't long enough. You made yourself lunch, but it wasn't the healthiest thing you could have eaten. You got something done, but there are still ten other things on the list. You took a breath, but you didn't meditate for twenty minutes.

There is almost always a "but" waiting to tell us why what we did wasn't enough.

What happens if, just for today, you let one small thing count?

Take five breaths. Notice that you took them. Then find one thing you did today and call it a win without adding anything after it. No "but." No moving the goalpost. No turning it into something you should have done better.

You did it. Let it count.

Small wins may not look like much in the moment, but this is how we begin to notice how often we are already showing up.
