@ark8o8 and I talked about how he taught and mentored @doubledownbreaks into being their own crew. Teaching kids or anyone to dance is one thing. But teaching kids how to become a crew is a whole other thing. If you've ever seen @doubledownbreaks you don't see any resemblance of how @ark8o8 or @the808breakers dances or operates. DDC have their own identity. And it's a beautiful thing to have seen grow. Full story with @ark8o8 to be up on YouTube later this evening (6p PST). behindthedance So at the beginning of 2021, when outdoor things became okay I tried to start doing interviews for BTD, the plan was to film 4-5 as a “season” but things just didn’t align too so so. I wanted to release them in weekly or monthly episodes, and so long story short this was the only episode and planned on releasing until I could get more interviews lined up. But to get the ball rolling, imma just drop pieces of this interview.Here @ark808 was mentioning people who are his inspirations and mentors out of the Bay Area.He mentions @profo_flgz @milestonebreaks and @coachedi aka B-boy Blakk of @cloud9tribe & @renegaderockersFull interview to be posted on YouTube. Would you rather be loved or respected?Was asked this deep thought provoking question and it made me reflect back to my dance days:As a b-boy respect is everything but hard to gain. Looking back now I realized I had some very toxic behaviors because of my thirst to win - I felt (back then) that winning meant you were respected. In my self improvement self love journey I realized that I didn’t even have respect for myself and in turn wasn’t able to love myself. But that want/need to win in order to be respected, I realized that I fell out of love with dance. So my answer to this question is, I chose to be loved, because you can’t love without respect, and I don’t believe it works the other way around. What would you choose, to be loved or respected? This episode was filmed back in March literally right before quarantine.I checked out creatively & was unmotivated during the early months of lockdown.I had some ideas but never executed on them.On top of that editing on my old Mac was frustrating. Happy Wednesday everyone! This pandemic threw me off of my plans and schedule as I'm sure it did for many of you. I had 2 episodes filmed prior to the shelter in place during National Women's month - I got to sit with and hear the stories of two friends of mine who were open to sharing their dance stories. First up to be featured is Alli Fritz, I've worked with Alli in shooting her behind the scenes photos of her annual workshop series EXTRA AF - She's a dancer/choreographer and works in corporate sales - both are full time careers!
