No Fooling. Bela’s first beach after adoption happened on April Fools Day. But as she has learned beach is important for all of us. She has become a real swimmer even handles some small waves. Who would have thought that. #dogsofwaikiki #dogsofhawaii #beachdog #stafforshirebullterrier #hawaiihumanesociety taken in Queen's Surf Beach Waikiki by @being_bela

🐾 Meet Bela — the little survivor with the biggest heart. 🐾

Bela is an almost 2-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix whose life has already been full of twists, turns, and second chances. Born with a deformed left eye that leaves her partially blind, she’s learned to navigate the world with courage, gentleness, and a spirit that refuses to dim.

Her journey began in a homeless encampment, where she was first rescued with money scraped together from selling a gaming console. When her owner had to move back to the mainland, Bela was surrendered to the Humane Society — her first time behind shelter walls. She found an adopter, but her anxious spirit kept pulling her back to the streets. After multiple stray pickups, she was eventually found locked in a car and brought once again to the shelter.

With her cloudy eye and a heart worn thin from shelter stress, Bela spent more than 100 days waiting… hoping… trying to trust again.

And then her life changed.

Bela is now in a loving, stable home — one where she is safe, understood, and adored. The transformation has been nothing short of remarkable. The dog who once curled into herself in fear now lays her full weight on your feet, asking for closeness. The pup who used to flinch at new experiences now has fans up and down the block, greeting neighbors with tail wags and soft eyes.

She’s a regular at the grocery store, a familiar face around town, and a star at her weekly swim lessons and beach days. Every week brings a new milestone — more confidence, more joy, more trust.

Bela’s story isn’t just about survival. It’s about what happens when a dog finally gets the love she always deserved. Her transformation is still unfolding, and every day she continues to bloom.

Bela is proof that a second chance can change everything. Dogs teach and remind us of life lessons. You need to stop to smell the flowers and enjoy the moment. #dogsofinstagram #rescuedogsofinstagram #stafforshirebullterrier #dogsofhawaii #hawaiihumanesociety taken in Waikiki, Hawaii by @being_bela

Throwing out those Fall vibes while waiting for mommy to get back from Starbucks. It’s Pumpkin Spice season. But we rock the lemon aid. #fallvibes #dogsincostumes #808dogs #staffyofhawaii #staffy taken in Starbucks by @being_bela

Check out some camp chairs at City Mill. Bela decide it’s not a real test unless she get up in the lap. @redheadcurlygirlz on the camera getting those good shots. #staffy #808dogs #staffyofhawaii #pitbull #dogsinlaps taken in Hawaii Kai by @being_bela

A quick stop at Kahala Beach to run a little of the sass off before rains set in. We almost made it the rain turned us back eventually. #808dogs #staffyofhawaii #staffy #beachdog #dogsofhawaii taken in Kāhala Beach by @being_bela

lol wish I got the camera quicker missed the early pictures. What you can’t see is the hedge is just taller than Bela. She walked right by the cat stopped a few feet away and could smell it. They could tell each was there but blinded by this little trip hazard of a hedge. #808dogs #staffy #dogsofhawaii #dogsandcats #staffyofhawaii taken in Kapahulu, Honolulu by @being_bela
