Every year we ask, “What’s today’s colour?” But have you ever wondered who decided it?

The 9 nights are about 9 forms of Devi, not a dress code. The colour-of-the-day idea is widely credited to Maharashtra Times, a Marathi newspaper that wanted more women readers. It gave them a reason to dress up together every morning. It worked so well that offices, brands and now our reels followed. #

So is it fake? No. Traditions evolve. This one is a modern ritual of community, fashion and fun, and I’m here for it. 💛 @maharashtratimesonline

कुछ जगहें सिर्फ़ मंदिर नहीं होतीं…
वो सदियों पुरानी आस्था की कहानी होती हैं।

असम की नीलाचल पहाड़ी पर विराजमान हैं माँ कामाख्या —
भारत के 51 शक्तिपीठों में से एक,
और शक्ति उपासना का एक अत्यंत पवित्र धाम। 🙏

मान्यता है कि जब राजा दक्ष के यज्ञ में माता सती ने अपने प्राण त्याग दिए,
तो शिव उनके पार्थिव शरीर को लेकर तांडव करने लगे।

सृष्टि का संतुलन बचाने के लिए भगवान विष्णु ने अपने सुदर्शन चक्र से
माता सती के शरीर को अनेक भागों में विभाजित किया।

जहाँ-जहाँ उनके अंग गिरे,
वहाँ शक्तिपीठ स्थापित हुए।

और नीलाचल पर्वत पर गिरा माता सती का योनिभाग—
जहाँ आज माँ कामाख्या शक्ति के स्वरूप में पूजी जाती हैं।

यहाँ माँ की कोई मूर्ति नहीं…
प्रकृति और सृजन-शक्ति के प्रतीक एक पवित्र शिलारूप की पूजा होती है।

शायद इसलिए माँ कामाख्या सिर्फ़ आस्था नहीं…

Garba is meant to unite, not divide. 💔🪔

What happened to the inclusion, devotion and camaraderie that Garba once stood for?

In Mumbai, it’s disheartening to see groups guarding their circles with dupattas, elbowing others out, and making it clear that if you don’t belong to their gang, you don’t belong on the dance floor.

Since when did a festival of Maa Ambe become a private party with exclusive memberships?

Garba is a prayer in motion. It is about surrendering to the divine, celebrating togetherness, and finding joy in the rhythm — irrespective of who you are or whom you know.

You don’t need to know someone to share a circle. You just need a little space in your heart. ❤️

Let’s not forget that the true spirit of Navratri lies not in how perfectly we guard our circles, but in how warmly we welcome someone into them.

Maa Ambe belongs to everyone. And so should her Garba. 🙏✨
