One year in Germany 🇩🇪 and honestly… I’m not sure how I’m still here, but apparently the universe isn’t done with me yet. 😂

This year has been a LOT. There were beautiful moments - exploring new cities, making memories with friends, laughing until my stomach hurt, and pretending I had my life together. And then there were the other moments… depression, loneliness, missing home, missing my family and friends, academic frustrations, endless hours in the lab, and questioning every life decision that brought me here.

Germany has tested me emotionally, physically, academically, financially, romantically… honestly, at this point, I deserve a certificate. Academia especially has taught me that “almost done” can mean another experiment, another deadline, another failed experiment, approximately 47342 more hours keeping cells alive, learning a different science discipline and a failed proposal 🫠

I’ve had days where I felt incredibly strong and days where getting out of bed felt like an achievement. I’ve missed home more than I can explain, and Germany hasn’t always been the kindest chapter. But somehow, through all the chaos, tears, questionable decisions, lab disasters, and existential crises… I made it through a whole year. One year! Still standing. Still laughing. Still learning. Still very confused & figuring it out.

Thank God I’m still alive and kicking - because apparently surviving Germany and academia is a full-time job on its own. Dankie Jesu.
