Hey guess what?! I graduated college!

Coming from someone who made YouTube videos telling my parents I didn’t want to go to college, it’s pretty crazy that I’m here now!

I thought it would be fun to take a look back at the past 4, or technically 5 years since I started my degree at LIU Global. When I first learned about Global, I thought it was fake. How could a school where you study in different countries for 7 of 8 semesters actually exist?

After living on 4 continents and visiting 30 countries during my time at Global, I can say with certainty that it’s real!

I will be eternally grateful for the countless adventures I’ve had and memories I’ve gotten to make along the way. If I didn’t have all these photos and videos from my travels, I might question whether I actually got to do all of this!

I feel so blessed for the incredible opportunities I’ve had, the growth I’ve experienced, and the many friends and family that I’ve made along the way.

I want to give an extra special thank you to the community I’ve made in Bali (why I’ve now visited 7 times). I miss y’all and I can’t wait to go back!

Since my last post, I had my final semester of college in Brooklyn, NY, which was a crazy change of pace from my worldly travels (in mostly tropical countries). I was honestly not excited at all to live in New York City. I am not a ‘city person’ and like warm weather and nature, which NYC in January definitely doesn’t have.

Funny enough, I completely fell in love with the city. I think a lesson that I’ve learned over and over is that it’s not the place you are in, but the people you are with. I made some incredible friends in Brooklyn, thanks to my newfound obsession with Acro Yoga (you should try it). Outside of acro and climbing, I had a lovely visit with my siblings Kai and Ila over spring break in Bend, OR, and I went to a Sticky Fingers concert!

Oh yeah I also graduated college, finished my thesis + thesis film, and made a 90 minute documentary about LIU Global. (link in description)

Hey friends! It’s that time again. Time to reflect on the year as it comes to an end. And what a beautiful year it has been.

It’s about this time of the year (day 365) that I start thinking, “there’s no way next year could be as good as the last,” yet I continue to be blessed (and proven wrong) with a life I absolutely love.

This post serves as a continuation of my last, which was in May of 2025. Since then a whole lot has happened!

After two weeks home in May, I flew to Thailand with my family and we explored pretty much non-stop for 14 days, visiting Bangkok, Sukhothai, Chiang Mai, Pai, and Koh Samui.

After parting with my dad and sister, my mom and I continued traveling for 10 days in Cambodia visiting Phnom Penh, Kampong Chhnang, Battambang, and Siem Reap.

I made a collection of videos for the trip which you may have seen on my story, now saved in the 🇹🇭 & 🇰🇭 highlights.

Upon returning home one of my best friends Cooper visited for a week of adventures and quality time, and we went to the very top of Mauna Kea for the first time!

I spent the rest of summer working in preparation for my upcoming semester in Bali, Indonesia.

Being my 7th visit to Bali, my community there has grown exponentially.

What is most incredible to me is that I’m still good friends with some of the people I met within 24 of arriving in Bali for the first time.

There were countless group dinners, ESPECIALLY at a steak house called Victory, many many workouts with friends, a whole lot of rock climbing, adventures around the island, a surprising amount of pool/billiard, movie nights, pool hangs, handstands, late night existential conversations, early morning men’s group meetings, and really all of the ingredients for a life I freaking love!

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this year, you know who you are 🫶🏼

So with some cautious optimism I’m truly looking forward to this next chapter of my life. I can’t possibly know what I’ll be feeling like next year as I do or don’t write one of these, but I look forward to finding out! by @beinkian

Hey friends, long time no see! 👋🏼

Let me catch you up on the wild year I’ve had, and what I’ve learned along the way.

Around this time last year, I’d just finished my first semester back at LIU Global — 4.5 months of non-stop adventure.

But I’d also gotten lost in the sauce of the social media game, and decided it was time for a break.

When I started traveling again, I figured I’d get back to posting… but every time I thought about redownloading Instagram, it just didn’t feel right.

The funny thing is, throughout this past year (mostly) off Instagram, I filmed and documented all of my travels through Oceania and beyond.

Regardless of whether or not I was posting anything, my desire to create stories didn’t fade.

But why wasn’t I posting?

There was a question I had yet to ask myself — a question so obvious it should have been a precursor to posting anything in the first place:

What is the (my) point of posting on social media?

Personally, I see it as a way to connect. Not to connect with others online, but to connect what goes on in my brain to the outer world.

It’s similar to the way people say teaching is the best way to learn. If you are able to teach someone else, then you’ve truly understood it.

When I ‘create content,’ what I’m REALLY doing is telling a story. 📖

In order to tell that story, I need to truly understand the experience I’ve had or the knowledge I’m trying to explain. Even writing this post is serving that exact purpose.

What I get at the end of that process is a deeper understanding of myself AND a record of the journey.

A story inside the snow globe we call Instagram or YouTube. One I can share with my future family.

I stopped posting because I didn’t feel truly aligned with the ‘story’ I was telling.

So what can I do differently?

Authenticity - Literally the quality of being real or true. Bein(g) Kian? 😂

Freedom - Sharing when I want to and how I want to.

Creativity - Creating stories not to impress, but to express.

This isn’t a set of skills I can acquire and forget about. Intentionality and awareness are integral ingredients to being the bein-est Kian in the whole wide world.

And now… I’m on a plane 🇹🇭🇰🇭 by @beinkian

‼️ Here is my 2024 recap (music video) ‼️

🏝️ Now that I have your attention, If I was lucky enough to have spent time with you in 2024, thank you! This has been another year filled with the most incredible, kind, loving and connective people. I am so grateful to all of the friends that I have made along the way. The adventures, deep conversations, stories, and laughs. The challenges, miscommunications, and confrontation. I am thankful for all of it. 🫶🏼

If for some reason you are reading this instead of watching the video, here is a recap of what I did this year:

I spent the spring semester studying in Vienna, while balancing travel to places like Bosnia, Romania, Malta, Bali (a bit out of the way), Crete, and Bulgaria.

My last two weeks of school were in London, which were followed by a short trip to Tenerife and Ireland.

After summer back home in Hawaii and visit to Santa Cruz, I spent a month back in Bali before jumping into another semester of school, this time in Byron Bay, Australia.

From there, I went on school trips to Fiji and New Zealand (YT Videos coming soon!), learning not just about these places, but getting to connect with and learn from the people OF these places.

I’m currently back home in Hawaii on winter break, getting ready to head back to Australia for the spring semester of my junior year of university.

I have quite enjoyed my sporadic social media posting so that is likely to continue, but time will tell!

🚀 Here’s to the adventures ahead in 2025! ✨

🛫🇦🇺🇮🇩🇹🇭🇰🇭🇮🇩🇦🇺🇳🇿 🛬

🎶 Disclaimer about the recap song: I wrote this song with the help of Chat you know who, but spent significant time making it flow well and cover all that I did this year! The actual song was made by putting the lyrics, along with a prompt, into Suno which is an AI music software. It pronounces things wrong sometimes… 🤖🎵 by @beinkian

A short trip to Tenerife, Spain 🇪🇸

My friend @leenabakky and I who met briefly a year ago (long story) decided to go for a little adventure around tenerife. Had a super sweet time exploring and hiking up some mountains ⛰️😅

Traveling with friends is always such a treat (more to come in my next post) and I look forward to more adventures with friends in the future!

I would summarize my time in Tenerife as melting on the beach, tasty food, fascinating conversations, and mesmerizing views.

One Way or Another 🎵 ft. the globalista family!

I can’t believe how quickly this semester flew by! These past few months have been some of the most transformative of my life, and I just want to give some gratitude to all of you for being such incredible people!

I’ll miss those of you who won’t be joining me in Australia next year, but I know you’re all going on your own new adventures and I am super excited for you! I’m also sure I’ll see many of you around the world somewhere, someday haha.

Vienna was our home base for most of the semester, but I feel like it was London that truly brought us together as a family, and although it could have happened sooner, I’m just glad it happened at all! Thank you all for the unforgettable memories and the friendship that made these months some of the best in my life. Here’s to the next chapter and the many more adventures to come!

With love and gratitude,
Kian

🎥 @camryncooneyy filmed this video and had the idea to do it in the first place! (I just made it vertical and school friendly 🙃)

And to those who aren’t part of my class, in summary this semester was freaking incredible and I am sooo happy I made the decision to return to @liuglobal

There will be many more adventures to come next year in Australia starting at the end of August and possibly a bit of adventure before the semester too! (in time we will find out)

I fly home in less than a week and I’ll be taking a much looked-forward-to pause from Instagram until my travels resume. Possibly a few more posts in the following week, but other than that see ya after summer! taken in London, United Kingdom by @beinkian

This is what I do on the weekends while studying at @liuglobal 🌎🌍🌏

Having the opportunity to study in different countries each year lets me see the world, and even a new country for the weekend, while getting my degree! Of course I make sure to get back in time for class on Monday, don’t worry😜

It’s been an incredible semester (still a few weeks left!) and so much to look forward to in the next two years of this program ✈️

It’s that time again, time to give a quick update on the past eight months since I’m on a plane for my next adventure… Back to Bali! I’ll be there a month and I have set a goal to post a short-form video every single day, and potentially a weekly youtube video as well. Ive been absolutely loving video editing the past few months and learning tons. This is going to be a challenge, but I’m sure i’ll learn lots no matter how far I make it. GO WATCH MY NEW VIDEO, link in my bio!

As you probably know, I only really post/use social media when I’m traveling. At home I feel like it doesn’t help me “connect” with people which is really the only reason I want to use it. So, that being said, Ill be posting lots this month and then when I return home I’ll probably be off it again for about a month and a half before returning to school (and travels). I fly to Vienna January 30th for my return to LIU Global. Many adventures to come and as of now I plan to document my travels. Mostly as a keepsake for myself, but also if theres a chance I can inspire anyone else that makes me happy too!

So heres the life update since I got home in April:
Did “monk-mode” and a dopamine detox upon returning home (removing all sources of dopamine for a week or longer), deleted video games (rip clash of clans), got a buzzcut and then grew out my beard, read 10 books, reached 1 year of sobriety, friends came to visit, went on adventures around the Big Island, worked out a lot and finally a successful bulk (meaning a put on some body fat & more muscle; less lean for now), and spent time with my lovely kitty cat romeo.

I also studied German and Indonesian daily, learned the Russian alphabet, learned how to type in a more “efficient” keyboard layout called DVORAK, and learned how to whistle in 8 ways.

I worked for my lil brother managing social media accounts on all platforms as well as generating income through that, and I started working for a digital marketing agency where I currently work (remotely) and I edited lots of videos.

Lastly, I decided to return to college!! (WTF?!)

Much love and all that, see ya in tomorrow’s video! taken in Big Island, Hawaii by @beinkian

Life has been fucking incredible recently ✨

I just wanted to give gratitude and also wanted to let you know (yes you 🫵🏼 reading this) that I appreciate and care about you. 🫶🏼

Heres some updates: Epic adventures, friends coming to visit, sick photography, future travel plans unfolding, future LIFE plans forming, getting swole in the gym, and enjoying continued sobriety at 21. Cool to see how interests change. 🍺👎🏼

Exciting things are coming! What exciting things? The possibilities are infinite ♾️ taken in Hawaiian Islands by @beinkian
