Homecoming over the weekend for our beautiful oldest granddaughter, Ev, and her bestie! She told me all about it today and when I asked what her favorite part was she said, “Dancing, of course!” 🥰 I wonder if chaperones can get in on that?! If so, sign me up! 😂🙋🏼‍♀️ by @bekadoolittle

I don’t think this is celebrated enough in our society probably because somewhere along the line someone deemed it as private. But, let me just go ahead to be one of the first to say I’ve officially crossed over into the realm of menopause after 365 days! 🙌🏻 I’ll be completely transparent in saying I haven’t used any medicinal support although I’m not opposed & may need to as time goes. Here’s what’s real for me:

10 years ago I noticed extreme bouts of unexplained anger & sadness. That was hard.

9 1/2 years ago we decided to get chickens which has been the best therapy! I did use a birth control pill for a short time but it made me retain water so that had to go & the chickens stayed. 😍

5 years ago I noticed a drop in energy but pushed through & found better life balance. I pay attention to my habits & usually can see what needs to be changed. This was also around the time my monthly cycle began to be erratic. I had tracked it for years & noticed small changes in timing.

3 years ago I saw significant changes in my monthly cycle. I noticed my sleep habits were also changing & I would wake up more at night.

2 years ago I began getting random hot flashes along with brain fog. I was still tracking my monthly cycle which was out of control by this point with minimal schedule adherence whatsoever. 🙄 My blood pressure went up & a low dose prescription is daily now.

1 year ago the hot flashes began to get terrible at night. I’ll be forthcoming here & say I would wake up yelling things like “hot hot hot!” or “cuss words!”, while tossing back covers & throwing off pjs. 😬 Brad and I have always been snugglers but during this time I really just couldn’t do it for more than about 45 seconds & sometimes even that was too long! 😳😆😫 Cue in horrible nights of sleep & brain fog & now I see how a zombie apocalypse can start. Women approaching menopause is no joke! 😆

6 months ago I noticed the hot flashes subsided significantly & became fewer & farther between to the point of nonexistent. 🥳

Today ~ continued brain fog, better nights of sleep, no more tracking my cycle & zero hot flashes (for now)! 👏🏻 I think a piece of cake is in order! 🎂 by @bekadoolittle

Kevin’s 35th Birthday Poem

Little known fact about the year of nineteen ninety-one,
You came into this world not breathing to well, my baby, my first born son.

Off to the NICU for about a day to give your lungs a jumpstart,
Twelve hours later, in my new mother’s arms, I held you close to my heart.

We used to sing together, you, your dad and me,
Hymns from church, radio songs, nightly lullabies to help you sleep.

The first song you sang verbatim, was Bad Boys from the show Cops,
We’d beg you to sing for family and friends and you’d do it without a backdrop.

Then came the day around age three when you stood at the top of church stairs,
Somewhere Out There from An American Tail you belted out over everyone’s prayers.

Your second grade teacher, Mrs. Shanks, could see your flair for writing,
Off to Talented and Gifted you went which we all found very exciting!

Look how far you’ve come since then, songs upon songs you’ve written,
Albums released, shows you’ve played, stage presence second to none.

Opening for Switchfoot was huge this year, a milestone if you will,
As a biggest fan for your 35 years, your show was the utmost thrill!

More to come of that there’s no doubt as you kick off your thirty-sixth year,
I pray your hopes and dreams come true and I’ll be in the front row to cheer!

My daughter in law, Kym, put together such a cute Practical Magic themed party for us! It was the perfect vibe complete with faux snake tattoos, little witch broom crafts made with cinnamon sticks and herbs from our garden, “chocolate cake for breakfast”, and of course, midnight margaritas! My cousin’s sense of humor was the best! Her laughter lingers and I’m so thankful for all the memories full of hilarious comic relief. Candace, I know you’re swapping stories about me with my mother-in-law and I hope you two are laughing it up and having the very best time!
