Rest in peace, sweet angel.
.
I wanted to paint this little darling ever since we all enjoyed the reel of her floating peacefully in a canoe. Thank you, David, for letting me paint your baby. I'll post the full painting in stories and in my upcoming end of November post with all paintings done this month.
.
Painting an animal is my biggest challenge, but I'm happy with how this turned out, especially the closed eye.
.
For this painting I used Winsor and Newton paints and 300gsm cold pressed paper.

Winnipeg blew my mind with the amount of aesthetic restaurants, cafes, and breweries.
.
What I loved was the service and unpretentiousness of it all. The people working there were welcoming and prices were fine. While it is recommended to make reservations for some, most were walk in and though they filled up, there was a relaxed air about it. Very different to what I’ve been experiencing elsewhere lately!
.
Winnipeg has some rough sides but it seems to make for a tightly knit community and a proud one at that. I honestly cannot pick a fave spot to highlight so I’ll post a carousel and some more reels. This was just the taster ;)

Life lately...
.
After a whirlwind Winnipeg trip, September has been quiet as I turned my attention from breweries to painting (a girl must have balance). While I've been procrastinating by doing tutorials, I do have a project to complete for a very special client that I will announce in mid-October! And btw I'm v proud of my blueberries 🫐 they turned out so cute.
.
In terms of travel, be prepared for me to share the changing of leaves in The Laurentides - fingers crossed I don't miss it as it's quite famously gorgeous in autumn... but the season seems shorter and shorter each year. I'm excited to visit lovely Francophone towns and eat their cheese (curds) and drink their wine (See?... Balance).
.
Excited to share some news with you in the next few weeks and looking forward to taking you along on a colourful autumnal journey. I'm trying to stay sane in these trying times by looking for beauty in the everyday and I hope you are doing so too.

Now that the world cup is over and we got to experience SOME positivity (aka Mexicans and Koreans falling in love, Boston taken over by kilts, Messi crying, AND Haaland kicking a man into the net WITH the ball - what is it, Christmas already?!), it's time to purposefully go out and create that positivity ourselves.
.
I've shared some 'good news' in my stories and I will aim to do that more often! As always, I've been finding beauty in cafes and in the care people take to make things beautiful around us, making sure to leave compliments and appreciation whenever possible. In the end, it will be kindness and community that gets us through it all.
.
In other news, I've spent my last few weekends painting and have signed up to take online lessons with my favourite artist - so get ready for more art as I paint some iconic travel spots. My goal is to take the course, make her see my potential, and beg her to mentor me in Europe! See, I don't need a prince to save me - I need to paint a villa in Spain... and Italy... and France. Stay tuned. I'll make it happen. Soon.

Saying goodbye to April
✨️
April was the month I became a nail girlie, discovered Severence, and got back into exploring this godforsaken city - I hit up 8 new spots which is pretty good for someone who is sick n tired of everything all the time!
🌷
April was also the month I finally cleared off my painting desk and got my supplies out, which is a win for procrastinators everywhere! Here's to moving at our own pace.

It didn't seem like I did a lot in April until I started getting all the pics together! I'm glad that in between my hellish commute, I managed to find (and create) moments of joy.

Shout out to making it through this winter - it wasn't easy. Cheers to our fresh start!

That feeling when you see the view from your hotel bed and you know you'll be spending a couple of hours IN is one of the best joys, especially when the view is iconic or something you've waited for ages to see!

What hotel has had your best view?

This one was in Laos and I booked it for my bday. My second best view was in Lisbon where I has a balcony overlooking the city and then in Paris where my private hostel room had a balcony and a view of the Sacred Heart Cathedral. This hotel also had lounges and a pool with these same views so people who didn't get a chance to have these mountain facing rooms could still enjoy the view daily. SAVE this for your trip to Laos!

This birthday, I decided to be more intentional about my rest. I did not book a trip to escape my life the way I normally do - don't get me wrong, I REALLY wanted to, but in a way, it also felt forced because my head hasn't been in it these days. Instead, I took a four days off work to enjoy an empty house, get creative again, and come back to myself. I did some writing, went thrifting, made some art, and got my slow mornings back. I've really been missing those.

In the end, my gift to myself this year wasn't a big elaborate trip or fancy day. It was time to feel truly present. Oh damn, the present IS the gift! It seems the philosophers and gurus have been right all along.

Enjoy the memes, and yes, I did a photoshoot with an ice cream cone that I re-iced myself LOL An aries woman's love for her self is unmatched! Shout out to all my Aries women. Hope you're prioritizing your rest! As the first sign of the zodiac, we're gonna need it to take on this crazy world 🔥🐎

While this year has been rough (death and destruction... plus I have to commute to work through it all), I'm so grateful for the messages and people who show up for me, on my bday and throughout the year. Some of you IG friends who I've not yet met in real life have been incredible and I'm very thankful for the supportive travel girl community that we've created, and continue to build, together. I hope to meet some of you in person in the year to come.

What do you do to shut off the noise?
.
Here is everything I painted in May in attempts to CHILL OUT. Even though I didn't necessarily feel like I was in any special type of zone, I was surprised to find I was pretty creative this month. Some of these were practice tutorials I signed up for on IG or found via YouTube. The heart and skulls were just painted w acrylic paints on ceramic shapes from Michael's. Which painting do you like the most?

I learn by watching so everything I've learned has been via YouTube and IG. I get bored painting one subject or in one style so I search for random things to paint that pose some kind of challenge. I've also paid for courses on Domestika and Skillshare to learn from the masters who inspire me.
.
Painting calms me when I find myself doomscrolling or stressed about world news. As an overthinker, I find painting shuts off the noise. Outside of travel, it's the only time when I'm not worrying about one thing or another. So, what do you do to shut off the noise?

Don't shoot the messenger.
.
One cool thing about Lisbon, Portugal, is the cute trams but one not-so-cool thing is the fugly graffiti everywhere. It wasn't street art, and it wasn't joyful... it looked like people were rebelling against their leadership or against tourism. Not a good look.
.
No, it wasn't just in the area I stayed in. They also tagged over nice shop fronts and those gorgeous classic Portuguese tiled walls. I don't think I've ever seen such tagging anywhere else in my travels, and I've been to over 40 countries! The second trolley even had the windows tagged... imagine how pleasant that is for the locals who take it up and down their hill every day. I was annoyed on their behalf.

The second trolley is also (or was also) a very Instagrammable place a few years ago bc it's a steep incline, and the trolley looks so cute going up and down. Well. Not anymore. Less tourists there now...but is it nice it to ride around in what looks like a trash can? Luckily, other trams in town are still pretty and maintained.

I didn't realize I'd captured a little cutie seal popping up to say hello until I was going through my pics. Very exciting moment for me. That seal was as curious about the puffins as we were 🤩 so cute!

📍Saltee Islands, Ireland in June
.
Head to Saltee Islands via Kilmore ferry on Ireland's southern coast in June to see "a colony" of puffins nesting and squeaking their way along the cliff edge. If you sit down and stay still, they come up quite close to get around you and into their little burrows.
