sonny loved folk music and chicken wings. movie marathons. the penjamin. nice cars. florida. his family. his friends. football. poker. freestyle rapping. little kids. the voice. fail videos on youtube. shark tank. being outside. expensive clothes. crab legs. when our little sister said bad words. flavor blast goldfish. raspberry iced tea. and a million things that only other people know and hold and i am jealous of everyone else’s memories of him and also grateful that he exists in so many rooms i will never be in. i still practice being a big sister to him- i keep a playlist of songs i want to send him, i talk to him in my airpods as i walk down the street, i introduce him to people who never met him and i tell them that he wanted to be a real estate agent and live somewhere it is always warm. i try to say yes to things i think he would find cool and sometimes i laugh when i put on an outfit i know he would say is ridiculous. “hear ye, hear ye” he announced to our house when i came downstairs wearing a top with a big pussy bow for our last christmas dinner together. he thought i was fucking with him when i said that’s what it was called. it is weird, this life, it feels wrong a lot of the time now, but these are some of the things that i know to be true and right.
