“Arrested Development” out now🎢

While a lot of this album focuses on the lightness and joy of being a kid — this song acknowledges the fact that childhood isn’t inherently carefree. As kids we learn to be deeply attuned to and shaped by our parents/grandparents/caretakers grief and pain — both temporary or longterm, acknowledged or repressed.

An overarching theme throughout this album is that good and bad (or happy and sad) go together, that love is inherently also about grief, “bittersweetness” being a feeling that we don’t need to be afraid of.

My best friends Jess and John on their wedding day, six months ago, just a few miles from where they first met as kids at Cazadero Music Camp.

I had a front row seat to their love story. Our first apartment after college in Silver Lake, when everything was new and John was “just staying with us temporarily” after moving to LA for the first time.

Backyard haircuts. Crazy neighbors. Midday naps on the living room futon. Picnic tables built, compost turned, backpacking adventures taken, forest fires escaped. taken in Shell Beach, Sonoma County by @bellaporter
