(EN) 💙 This year, we have sought to highlight in many different ways the value of growing within a community that cares for one another, has fun, shares values, and prioritizes well-being.

We have organized a variety of initiatives to encourage family participation, including:

🌿 Bellelli Talks: Monthly talks or workshops led by families and team members for the entire community.

🎶 Family Band: Monthly rehearsals with families, leading up to a final performance at Jazz Café alongside Preschool and Primary students.

☕ Coffee and Chat: Monthly conversations between families and school directors to share strategies that support the well-being of the entire community.

💙 These initiatives allow families to get involved according to their interests, availability, and desire to contribute. Family voices and participation are an essential part of our educational project and provide a valuable opportunity for us to get to know one another better.

(EN) Do you know what Electives are and why they are so important at Bellelli?

Electives are a space for choice, connection, and shared interests. During each block, Primary students choose an experience they want to explore and work in mixed-age groups, creating opportunities to learn with and from one another. Student leaders also play an important role: they help bring ideas forward, organize the work, collaborate, and move projects from ideas into action.

In our first block, students explored Architecture, Ecological Practices and Publishing developing projects such as bird feeders, bee houses, a classroom trash bin, restaurant models, homes for animals, video editing, and more.

Different ages, shared interests, student leadership, and many ways to turn ideas into action. Which elective would you choose?

(EN) Last week, Helena Ayales, Pedagogical Director, and Carolina Garcia, General Director, participated in the international event: In Dialogue with the Educational Project of Reggio Emilia: A School that Researches.

Held in Lima, the event offered a valuable combination of conferences with speakers from Reggio Emilia, school visits, exchanges with colleagues, a variety of workshops, and ongoing opportunities for dialogue about how the Reggio Emilia Approach inspires our own contexts.

We are excited to share many of these learnings with our team and families, and to embrace this process of deep reflection as we continue learning, questioning ourselves, and seeking what is best for childhood.

(EN) Throughout our Civic Week, we share different moments that bring us closer to Costa Rican traditions: a special breakfast with our Nido families featuring traditional food, and across the rest of the school, traditional clothing, folk dances prepared by some of our teachers, music by our student band, and the traditional parade with lanterns created by the children themselves, from Nido through Elementary School.

At Bellelli, our community brings together families, children, and educators from many different nationalities. We have diverse stories, cultures, and places of origin, but Costa Rica brings us together: the country where we share, learn, grow, and build community. 🇨🇷❤️

How wonderful it is to celebrate together this country we love so much! taken in Bellelli Santa Ana by @bellelli_edu

(EN) Our 3rd and 4th graders began their first science lab alongside entomologist Ximena Miranda. We have shared a long journey with Xime, connected by our passion for nature, learning, and meaningful, transformative experiences.

It is fascinating to see how Bellelli children observe closely, ask questions, develop hypotheses, and connect what they discover in their own context with knowledge and experiences from other places. Using tools such as magnifying glasses, tweezers, and stereoscopes opens up new possibilities for seeing and understanding. Discovering through this sense of wonder is key to making learning truly meaningful.

Our garden is a great living laboratory, and these experiences allow us to explore with greater detail and depth, continuing to strengthen students’ critical and scientific thinking, deepen adults’ observation, and at the same time enrich our school-wide research project. 🌿.

🌿 taken in Bellelli Santa Ana by @bellelli_edu

(EN) Celebrating childhood means celebrating hope, joy, and wonder.

Today, we celebrated with our Preschool and Primary children and teachers at Santa Ana Park—an opportunity for all of us to enjoy play, being together, caring for one another, and the public spaces within our community.

It was very special to see so many children enjoying the park, much like public squares were enjoyed in the past: as places for gathering, relationships, diversity, and simplicity.

Thank you for reminding us that when we inhabit these places, they become safer, friendlier, happier spaces filled with connection and shared experiences.

Making childhood, its potential, and the importance of play visible is one of the causes we care most deeply about.

Happy Children’s Day! 💛

¡Felicidades!! taken in Bellelli Educación by @bellelli_edu

(EN) At Bellelli, we have always enjoyed building community through initiatives that grow from the interests and wishes of children, teachers, and families. We believe that, in a way that is deeply connected to our identity, this is how relationships are strengthened—because there is enjoyment and a genuine desire to share.

Last year, it all began with a group of children who were interested in a song. From there, a teacher discovered that several mothers and fathers also shared a special connection with music. Together with the Atelier Sonoro, this meeting of interests turned into something unexpected: a family band that ended up performing at the Preparatoria graduation.

This year, we wanted to open the experience to the entire Bellelli community. Once a month, mothers, fathers, and grandparents will come together to rehearse, make music, and enjoy being together. We have already had our first session, and this video is a recap of last year’s band!

We are excited about these spaces because family participation can go far beyond simply joining a school activity. It can grow from their own interests, talents, and desire to share. It is also an intergenerational experience where everyone can participate. This is perhaps the greatest example we can offer children: building relationships around the things we enjoy, seeing that adults also deeply enjoy being part of a community, and experiencing how creating a positive and healthy environment together enriches each person.

It is wonderful to experience school as a place of connection and belonging. taken in Bellelli Educación by @bellelli_edu

This year, we decided to turn our attention to the school garden.

It is becoming the setting for parallel, complementary, and deeply meaningful investigations across our Preschool and Primary groups.

The garden is a living ecosystem: a setting that welcomes us, holds our everyday experiences, and is continuously shaped by the countless forms of life we coexist with. In this context, questions, hypotheses, and observations emerge naturally. Children’s conversations become deep, sometimes even existential, revealing a sense of connection, complicity, and care, and even a desire to play alongside the many beings with whom we share this space.

Curiosity and wonder are in constant dialogue with expressive languages: drawing, painting, light, construction, and many others, opening multiple possibilities to represent, interpret, and continue constructing knowledge.

And then, questions and theories like these emerge:

2nd Grade
“Is the soil alive?” —Sebas
“The soil is alive because it has bacteria that make it alive.” —Julieta
“Yes. The soil is alive because it makes plants grow.” —Victoria

Prep:
“I made a gym for the baby ants so they can get stronger.” —Ayana
“There aren’t millions of ants here. There are billions of ants.” —Gael

3rd Grade
“I’ve been climbing trees since I was three. I’ve been here since I was three.”

“I climbed up to the treehouse when I was six. I wanted to get down, but I didn’t realize how small I was, and I fell really hard.” —Federico

The garden is not simply the place where we investigate. It is part of the investigation, part of our stories, and part of how we learn together. taken in Bellelli Educación by @bellelli_edu
