Take me back!

My birthday weekend experience began with some slippery sensory footwork with my girls at @bluemontvineyard.

I didn't care my dress could have gotten stained. We were present, looked super cute, and filled with child-like JOY.

I'm still dreaming about the crab dip and peach wine slushies, and laughing at Eki yelling "You gotta stomp the grapes not slide them around!" at me.

We are crushing it, ladies! Over three decades of friendship, and we are still creating new core memories.

Special s/o to my grape bag that people thought was a prop provided by the vineyard asked me to take photos with it (I let them).

The Pink that Popped...

I only remember about this pink flower-jacket-dress-cardigan situation when the dress code calls for it. I'm not a pink person but BABAY! If I collected just $1 from every person who gagged at this pink thing I wore yesterday, I would have returned home with enough $ to make Madi's September tuition payment. Goodness. It was overwhelming, but this simple garment brought smiles across the city. A literal talking piece.

The lesson: Give the underdog a chance to shine.

Also, shout out to all the happy people in Brooklyn yesterday. The vibes and culture were loud and vibrant.

When I think of my childhood, age 8 always sticks out. The year Ms. Sturnielo read Charlotte's Web to our class, and I felt safe, innocent, and seen.

My dearest Loa,

I'm happy I was there to help celebrate your 8th Birthday! You are getting taller, more curious, more whimsical, and more confident. You are an excellent photo partner and photo subject,with a light so bright you create your own spotlight. You are kind.

I adore your innocence, your giggles, your interesting obsession with your friends and adoration for your family. You are pure Joy.

As they say on these platforms, you are "that girl," and never forget it!

"Do you smoke?" (LoL)
That was the very first thing Eurila asked me when we first met in person after connecting on MySpace.

Thank you, @exploringeurila. You are the Black woman photographer, archivist, visual storyteller, and artist I wish I had the audacity to be.

Thank you for seeing me all those years ago.

I regret that we haven't bumped into each other on 7th or Flatbush Aves in some time. I regret that over time, I started to avoid you because I didn't want to hear, "You have the dopest eye. I don't understand why you aren't doing photography for RIL?" We always missed each other at Dance Africa, but I knew you were always there. You had to be. You documented Brooklyn so authentically and beautifully. No one does a Reel like EuRila.

My timeline is already less bright and corny. Social media won't be the same without you, but the photoshoots and Reels in Heaven are about to be epic!

So, from "One RIL FLY Gurl" to the next, I will continue to take photos, tell the stories, and stay dope and fly in your honor.

I look forward to seeing your work continue through your beautiful daughters...*cue* Legacy, Legacy, Legacy.

"Happiness is a state that we choose, not a character." - Mrs. Patterson, Every Brilliant Thing

When Dr. @chelsealovesyoga told me I could bring a friend to the final @Lululemon Summer Series, I skipped the eenie, meenie, miney mo, and went straight to my Madi. We got to flow, swag surf, and sweat side by side on a rooftop in the greatest city in the world, facing the Brooklyn Bridge, led by the best and most intentional Yoga instructor in the world (#teamchelsea). How dope is that? Let's run it back!

And later that day, Madi got to see me make my little acting debut with my very important one-liner (shout out to #314!) in Every Brilliant Thing with my fave, Tracee Ellis Ross. This play is Brilliant in every single way, and I'll definitely be running it back soon. I'm grateful I can still experience moments like these with my young adult child.

There really is no place like home. Even though this is the first summer I can remember having no trips booked, I feel completely satisfied.

From cobblestones to rooftops and countless drink boomerangs, I'm still recovering from last weekend.

Celebrating my high school bestie's 45th and getting swept up in my South Florida cousin's Jay-Z30 weekend hypeness transported me back 25 years.

...But being with and celebrating your people is always worth it.

Here's to many more clinks of glasses, views and vibes, belly laughs, JOY...and NYC.

*shouting* SIWO! SIWO!

On Juneteenth 2026, I had the special honor of participating in my dearest Eki's traditional Edo Nigerian wedding ceremony to the love of her life.

On a day that commemorates freedom and triumph, it was pretty dope witnessing another kind of jubilee, a beautiful union rooted in love, family, community, and culture.

What a full season it has been, witnessing my friend in pure bliss and surrounded by so much love and happiness.

It's impossible to capture a day like this in a few photos, but I wanted this day to have a permanent place on my feed (Besides, our feeds have become our photo albums.)

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Roberson. Thank you for bringing SO MANY people together celebrate alongside you.

Golden Birthday...

Poised, confident, and a quiet storm. On June 20th, my Madi turned 20 years old! From the little girl I took on countless adventures, near and far, to the young, assertive woman who goes after what she wants, I am honored she still chooses to make more memories with me.

#Madi20 was beautiful. It was EPIC. Our way. And I am here to watch her blossom into the woman she is meant to be.
