I work creatively with mixed media, assemblages, and photography, but I especially love collage. Although I do much more—I don't do NFTs!

One of our favorite areas on the property features a red metal and green wood gate attached to a wooden fence. Flanked on the outside by a large Sasanqua shrub on the right and an Abelia on the left, you are tempted by the beauty of the autumn leaves to come through, rest for a while on the hidden porch, and watch the birds feed at their feeders.

Description

I noticed this male Northern Cardinal sitting on a dogwood branch during a rain shower. Occasionally, he would fluff his feathers and then hunch back down. The branches' structure is highlighted as the colors explode around them. The photograph has a playful, colorful treatment that creates a one-of-a-kind abstract statement. NOT AI!

Mockernut hickory (Carya tomentosa) is the most widespread true hickory, growing in upland forests from southern New England to Nebraska and south to northern Florida. In fall, mockernut leaves turn golden yellow to bronze, with the color arriving reliably across the crown. In this photo, two mockernut hickories frame a tall group of tulip poplars, their branches almost bare against a stormy sky in Upstate South Carolina.

Snow falls in the quietness of winter on a horse pasture in Upper Greenville County, South Carolina. The photograph was given a painterly effect. (NOT AI)

Here's the other side of the journal page I did after making the video yesterday.

This collage was entirely made up of scrap grabs, and what started this particular one was the name "Horace" at the top of the old encyclopedia page I used as a background, then finding the photo of the man walking on the sidewalk in 1960s (West) Germany. It was taken by an American GI stationed there during the Cold War. I found the soft-cover booklet of the GI's photos on the Thrift Books site. He had had it printed when he came home, and only his family would have enjoyed it, because most of the images were slightly out of focus, but are great for using as a collage element when cut up. Love finding these old books that are of seemingly no use! I figured I could name this guy Horace, and tell a little story about him. 😉

This is a basic journal practice video, just to see if I get feedback, exploring other areas of art and mixed media. It's not brilliant; it's not beautiful- just a little play.

A chickadee is perched on a sunflower getting ready to go to seed. The chickadee is a little early, but he won't mind hanging around in the area until the sunflower is ready.
Digital collage, NOT AI.

Softened with added textures and made mysterious by light, these beautiful dogwood flowers always herald the coming of spring and for many, Easter.
