Some class work recently on the gravel from the girls!! Rebbecca Johnson got a dominant victory in the @gloriousgravel Graean Cymru UCI race, her finishing time not far off the elite podium as well!

Then Amelia Tyler put in a massive ride after an early mechanical to claim 3rd Elite in the @scottishcycling Gravel Champs, a case of what could’ve potentially been but still an amazing ride!

It was unarguably a great 9 day stage race in the jungle at the Tour de Guyane for Belmont performance riders!!

With podium galore from 3rd GC for Charlie and Carl with 2nd and 3rd in the combination and sprints jersey respectively. Boz was also just 4s off the podium on the first TT. Racing for 9 days in extreme temperatures and humidity is tough work and requires a lot of heat prep and fatigue resistance work.

However they raced perfectly and were a constant feature in the GC fight in multiple breaks throughout the race. Take a look at some of the insane KJs expended during their time racing!

First off, no Max isn’t riding in slow motion this is what is needed for real LOW CADENCE work. 40 to 45 rpm is crucial as at 60-70 rpm is almost impossible to hit enough torque to generate any meaningful adaptions.

Although people call it strength work even at 40 rpm the torque you produce is nowhere near what you generate in the gym. So what is the point?!

Grinding at 40 to 45 rpm loads each pedal stroke hard which helps to create neuromuscular pathways between your muscles and brain which in turns increases your functional strength and muscular endurance.

The muscular endurance side is also a key reason to incorporate low cadence training. As you fatigue your cadence naturally drops so to keep power constant your torque must increase. Deliberate low-cadence torque work rehearses that force demand on its own.

Skip it if you’ve got any knee or patellar tendon history. At 40 rpm the joint load is high and it flares exactly that and build into lower cadence. Start at 50-55 RPM and gradually reduce as it feels more comfortable

Comment #TORQUE and we’ll send you one of our juicy sessions.

HUGE doesn’t even do this ride justice by @olliesmith_17 - Massive day out @dorset_divide - Staggered caffeine intake, a shed load of food and a minimal amount of sleep meant Ollie battered his performance from a few years ago!

Dot watching has never been so intense.
