English gives us one “was”, Spanish gives us a choice of viewpoint. 👀

For a concert that’s over, both El concierto fue súper divertido and El concierto estuvo súper divertido sound natural.

✨ Fue ✨ Presents the concert as a complete event.

✨Estuvo ✨ Focuses on how the experience was.

✨Era✨ could fit if you’re setting the scene or describing the concert as part of a longer story.

✨ Estaba✨ sounds less natural with divertido in this example.

That’s the cognitive grammar lens: we’re not just translating was. We’re choosing how to frame the past. Which option would you pick? 💜

Do you feel completely lost when your Chilean friends, family, or partner speak Spanish? 😅

It doesn’t mean you’re bad at Spanish. You might just need more practice listening to the kind of Spanish people actually use: natural conversations, everyday expressions, and all those sounds that can blur together at first.

Do you freeze when someone asks “¿Qué hora es?” 🕒 There’s a simpler way to answer.

In Chile, we often say the hour + the minutes:

3:40 → Son las tres cuarenta.
3:45 → Son las tres cuarenta y cinco.
3:50 → Son las tres cincuenta.

“Son las cuatro menos cuarto” is also correct! But you don’t have to use “menos” after the half-hour. You can keep using the numbers you already know 😌

Save this carousel and practice saying the time in Spanish the next time you check your phone.
