‘The Fragility of Things’
Paper, thread, wire, tape, aluminium, MDF.

Designed for 100 Lights by @friends.associates as part of Melbourne Design Week 2025, ‘The Fragility of Things’ is a light that explores the poetics of the everyday.

Assembled from paper, thread, wire and tape, it examines the idea of things being held together just enough, without excessive force or finish. An exploration that challenges the assumption of durability equaling value, instead offering an alternative perspective: that delicacy, imperfection, and temporality can hold emotional weight.

An edition of lights exploring material re-use, the Bloc series are made from salvaged car engine parts and manufacturing offcuts. Inspired by building blocks and the act of arranging things, each light plays with points of balance to create diffused illumination.

Exhibiting now @craftvictoria as part of Aluminium, a single material exploration that invites six artists, makers and designers to respond to the allure, practicality and ethics of aluminium. Curated by @elizatiernan showing 11 May – 22 June 2024.

Dialogue chair in aluminium, chrome plated steel, waxed canvas. Showing in 100 CHAIRS by @friends.associates for Melbourne Design Week.

A chair developed by @belwilliams.studio and @clairmar between LA, Adelaide and Melbourne.

As strangers that became friends at MDW 2024, Dialogue chair is our first collaboration — exploring our creative alignment for the first time and a way to stay in touch when separated by hemispheres. Designed together over the past five months through an online exchange of sketches, mockups and annotations.

Mechanically fixed, the chair can be disassembled, shipped and reassembled, allowing for ongoing change and iteration.

‘A stool that looks fancy if you squint your eyes.' Aluminum extrusion, stacked cork floor tiles, nuts and bolts.

Designed for Do it Ourselves, an initiative of @alor.designstudio where four designers were tasked with creating a piece of seating using off the shelf materials readily available at each of our local hardware stores.

Approaching the hardware shop like a giant lego store, I’ve used the most fundamental construction techniques, expressing the joins and fixings as design elements with a piece that nods toward its more exclusive counterparts. Stacked cork floor tiles stand in for a seat cushion substrate, propped up with butt joined aluminium extrusions to make a stool that looks fancy if you squint your eyes.
