I present to you: "Gotong" / 고통 // Grief

A little while ago I was fortunate enough to chat with the awesomely talented sculptor and painter @gray_turtle . He kindly sold me one of his unpainted sculpts, so that I could try my hand at it.

I have to admit, this sculpt was the most finely detailed and amazing figure I've had in my hands to this day. Being a big fan of his work, I tried my best to emulate and honor his style & approach as best I could, while adding my own touch to it.

I hope I have done it justice, at least a little bit.

All pigments and tufts used on the diorama plinth are exclusively by @gamersgrass 🫶❤️

// Commission - DKoK Rough Riders
(Single model, all angle shots to follow shortly)

I had the great pleasure of receiving a very cool commission request a while ago. A kitbash of the new Attilan Rough Riders with Death Korps of Krieg, to fit an existing army. Two kits designed to merge beautifully, with a little bit of sculpting here and there where arms or hands wouldn’t quite meet. A huge thank you to my client for trusting me with this banger project 🙏❤️

I’m excited to hear what you guys think. I had a great deal of fun working on these and am very excited for more projects within this army. Also keen on the thoughts of the godlike painters over at @cultofpaintcommissions who had a similar project on their hands, and started at about the same time I believe, but are just a wee bit faster than my slow hands 😀

Big thanks to my buddy and master painter @chewie_painting for some midway feedback and being a big inspiration in finding my own style more and more. Can’t wait to show you guys more of this project down the road. There is some awesome stuff waiting for paint.

First off: inspiration drawn from a brilliant illustration by the great @meduzartist called "Lookout" - search it out, give it all the love.

@romanlappat.miniatureart really leading the way in things framed dioramas. Can never not mention him for the Inspo he puts out, especially in this field.

I'm a real die-hard blood angels fan, despite not uploading many. The illustration by Mykyta really hit home with me, the emotion it conveys through scale, positioning, and placement - chef's kiss. I tried to achieve a similar ratio in my piece.

Yeah...in summary: it's a blood angel standing vigil in a slab of a giant fortress wall on a once paradise-like, now irradiated wasteland planet. The beautiful tragedy, Baal.

One of my best friends broke his shoulder, pretty much right after he purchased this army and registered for a tournament. This rendered him unable to paint them. Knowing all too well how annoying such injuries can be, in an effort to cheer him up, I offered a helping brush. So...Here are the results of my best efforts to mix a speedpaint and some flashy tabletop results, so he can roll up to the tournament in style.

Next kill team/'munda mat down, the desolate moonscape of Malum Captionem IX. An arid, lifeless scape that houses a derelict imperial vox-relay station that only recently began transmitting peculiar and outdated distress signals to passing ships.

How to? @co.rius has a terrific tutorial for this stuff.

I grabbed the "textured battlemat" tutorial off his Patreon, just went for a standard wall-canvas instead of an unstretched rollable canvas. It's a well spent couple of bucks for a cheap, creative, fun and far more believable version of what you can buy from any official vendors...and you can use it as an eye-catcher on your wall if you're keen 😄👍

Dimensions: 80x60cm (Kill Team is 76x56 - so room to spare for any necessary markers)

Speedpaint time!

As we all know by now, I'm a DREADFULLY slow painter. This is a friend's model, who wasn't fielding the void dragon because he didn't dare paint it. So I offered some assistance, so that his opponents may bleed whatever they bleed.

This is one of my few, rare, speed paints, clocking in at a total working time of 11 hours. I won't lie, it has glaring issues and some blatant shortcomings, but I set myself a hard limit and tried what a bit of effect paint trickery, airbrushes, and a bit of oils could achieve in things speed.

The few times I do play, cardboard under my terrain annoys the hell out of me and I find it to be a jarring break in immersion. So... I tried to channel my inner @co.rius

Knight Cerastus Lancer, commission done.

The final model from this commission. This one was an absolute joy to put together and paint. Gotta give credit where it's due, Gee-Dubs did a great job with this model, may have to buy and paint one for myself now as well 😄
Also...the satin varnish does have its drawbacks in photography, but man do those colors stay lush in real life. A far better trade for someone who will play these on the table or put them on a shelf. Something I will be carrying over to pretty much all models from this commission onward.

Heavily inspired by Henry's @cultofpaint Cerastus Knight, with some tweaks to match the commission's overarching scheme/colors.

Wonder where such a model would end up if I'd really only have "that one thing" to paint. Guess I really will have to get myself one of these as a shelf-lord.

Helverine go tramplepew blamblam.

3/3 helverines of the knight commission work. With more time on my hands I'd paint these a second time for myself. James Workbench did an awesome job with these models, they're a pleasure to build AND paint. Not as common as you'd think 😄
