Here’s WHY I’m not ready:

A few months ago I had a bit of a disaster / setback with the Canter build which I haven’t shared yet! I had to rethink a big section of the build and for a while, I was actually unsure that I could make it work!

In the end, it worked out, and I’ll be sharing the story over the next month with truck updates resuming as of this week!

Needless to say, it left me in a tricky spot. Do I just leave with the truck in its current sub-par state, or do I SEND IT and aim to get everything done even if it means possibly missing the mark?

We’re going for it! Because bite off more than you can chew, then try very hard to chew it.

Here’s the list of what needs doing 😂
Replace roof actuators
Replace poptop canvas
Fix leaky roof
Replace windows
New Lithium power system
Finish insulating truck
Clean up rusty frame
Add some sort of backup camera
Add basic toilet and shower
Rebuild cabinets and kitchen
Rebuild the bed setup
New driving lights
Paint entire exterior

Recon we can do it for $10k with the help of my favorite brands?!

The reality:

of taking on big projects is that sometimes, no matter how much research you do, how much money you spend, or how carefully you plan, things still go spectacularly wrong.

Four expensive actuators, countless hours of work, and two months of troubleshooting, only to discover that the entire system was a write off.

I think social media makes big builds look like one exciting milestone after another, but the reality is often frustration, expensive mistakes, and wondering why you started in the first place.

I love building things, but I’d be lying if I said moments like this didn’t test that love.

Huge thanks to LINAK for getting me back on track, having made the mistakes I made, there’s genuinely no other product in the market that I’d use.

I guess it’s all part of the process, right? 😅

I decided to go with BLACK for a few reasons:

1 - Tony @rux.life had some right there and it was free. Can’t argue with free!
2 - Because I don’t have access to an industrial seam welder, we will need to run some silicone up the seams of the canvas leaks. That silicone will be black!
3 - I haven’t decided if I want to paint the truck and what colour and any other colour felt like committing too early!

The final touches on the Kimpex 450 🔧

Over the last few weeks I’ve been turning a stock CRF450RL into the lightweight adventure bike I wanted Honda to build.

For the final round of upgrades I’m taking care of the smaller details. Better protection, cleaner controls, improved visibility and a few finishing touches that should make a big difference when I’m far from home.

The build phase is officially coming to an end.

Now comes the fun part. Seeing what this thing can actually do. 👀
