I could’ve made hella money, but then who was supposed to drive the hardest whip in the family?!!!

So naturally I bought an old Mercedes, spent money on it and took approximately 547 pictures of it from every angle.

Then I decided the best way to present the car was to upload everything in the absolute worst quality imaginable.

Because if ur going to make questionable financial decisions, you might as well make the evidence look questionable too.

In the 1970s, Mercedes-Benz decided it needed a smaller, more economical car, but it still had to feel like a proper Mercedes. The project eventually became the W201, or 190.

Bruno Sacco, who was leading Mercedes-Benz design, was given the difficult task of making the car unmistakably Mercedes without simply shrinking an S-Class. He wanted the 190 to have its own proportions while still sharing the same design language as the larger cars.

Sacco and his team went for a very clean and restrained shape. The body was low and aerodynamic, with simple surfaces, sharp edges and very little unnecessary decoration. The black side mouldings, distinctive rear lights and carefully shaped profile gave the car character without making it look overly styled.

The design was also heavily influenced by engineering. Mercedes wanted the 190 to be economical and aerodynamic, but also to drive and feel like a larger Mercedes. The designers worked closely with the engineers, refining the body around the suspension, safety requirements and aerodynamics.

When the 190 was introduced in 1982, it didn’t look like a small S-Class. It looked like something new, but you could immediately tell it was a Mercedes. That was exactly what Sacco wanted: different models should look related without simply being scaled versions of one another.

The result was a car that wasn’t designed to be flashy or futuristic. It was designed around proportion, simplicity and function. And that’s a big reason the 190 still looks right today. There simply wasn’t much unnecessary styling for the years to make outdated.
