We’ve had the pleasure of having @jencuneobookbinding for four days of private tuition in the bindery. She was looking for a solution for a personal project, a wedding gift. Together with Ben she created this cool custom-made book box with a Shrigley structure on the inside. Covered in marbled paper, snake skin spine and magnetic closure.

Nous avons eu le plaisir d’accueillir @jencuneobookbinding pendant quatre jours pour une formation privée dans notre atelier de reliure. Elle cherchait une solution pour un projet personnel : un cadeau de mariage. Avec l’aide de Ben, elle a créé cette superbe boîte-livre sur mesure, avec une structure Shrigley à l’intérieur. Recouverte de papier marbré, avec un dos en peau de serpent et une fermeture magnétique.

C’était un vrai plaisir de t’avoir parmi nous, Jen ! 😃

Een boek maken als cadeau met bijdragen op papier van verschillende mensen is altijd een uitdaging. Zeker als die mensen niet allemaal in hetzelfde land wonen. Want gebruikt iedereen hetzelfde papier? Met de goede looprichting? Is alles op tijd binnen om er nog een boek van te maken?

De oplossing: een Shrigley binding, ontwikkeld door @ben.elbel, maken met van iedereen een ansichtkaart erin. Geen “gedoe” met looprichting en zelfs op het allerlaatste moment kunnen mensen een kaartje inleveren. En ik heb mijn planning van het maken helemaal zelf in de hand!

Het boekje moest wel robuust worden, een wat luxere uitstraling hebben en beschermd zijn om mee te kunnen op reis. Daarom heeft het stevige platten en een schuifcassette gekregen.

The Dragon Masters & The Last Castle by Jack Vance, published by Suntup Editions.

Bound in a dos-à-dos binding covered in paste papers made by us, a buffalo leather spine, magnetic flaps, a copper-foiled top edge and in house made gold-foiled endpapers.

We worked on this limited edition in the summer, with the help of our wonderful team. Big thanks to Manon, Eléa, Larissa, Roderick, Théo and Maxime.

Reliure tête-bêche, recouverte de papiers à la colle réalisés par nos soins, avec un dos en cuir de buffle, des rabats aimantés, une tranche de tête dorée à la feuille de cuivre et des gardes dorées à la feuille, également réalisées par nos soins.

Nous avons travaillé sur cette édition limitée tout au long de l’été, avec l’aide de notre merveilleuse équipe. Un grand merci à Manon, Eléa, Larissa, Roderick, Théo et Maxime.

The Psychology of Human Misjudgment • Charles T. Munger • Stripe Press

Completed just a few weeks ago, this was a special commission for a private collector in the United States.

For this thin volume with very contemporary content, I felt compelled to use my classic dos rapporté style, in full leather.

No fireworks here, or flashy effects, but rather, a very understated, almost austere design based on debossed patterns, carefully combined colours, crisp execution and luxurious materials.

Achevée il y a seulement quelques semaines, cette reliure est une commande spéciale pour un collectionneur privé aux États-Unis.

Pour ce volume fin au contenu très contemporain, j’ai naturellement opté pour mon style classique de dos rapporté, en plein cuir.

Ici, pas de feu d’artifice ni d’effets spectaculaires, mais plutôt un design sobre, presque austère, basé sur des motifs estampés à froid, des couleurs soigneusement assorties, une exécution précise et des matériaux luxueux.
