"Wondrous things the egg became"

One of my favorite pieces of all time is Luonnotar by #Sibelius. This song's lyrics are from the Finnish epic "Kalevala" which deals with the creation of the world.

Luonnotar is a lonely goddess resting in the sea. A restless duck appears someday. It is trying to find a place to #build its nest but there is only the wind and the sea. Luonnotar lifts her knee above the waters and the duck nests there. When Luonnotar shakes, the eggs fall and break. "The shell's top dome
became the vault of heaven.
The upper albumen,
The bright shining Moon.
The motley part, the firmament.
Heavenly starlight." #inktober2019 #indianink #blackandwhite #greyscale #drawdrawdraw #opera #symphony #mythology #genesis #classicalmusic #finnish #artistoninstagram #art #イラスト #オリジナル #일러스트 #abdinktober #abdinktober2019 #dark taken in Académie de Bande Dessinée DELCOURT by @ben.potel

"What is ice which gives you fire and which your fire freezes still more?" The title character from Puccini's opera Turandot is a Chinese princess who will only allow a man to marry her if he answers her riddles correctly. Any wrong answer means death.

The captioned quote is her final riddle, fire being a metaphor for desire and love while ice refers to Turandot herself. The protagonist proclaims the answer is Turandot, she refuses to marry him still.
The Prince offers her a way out with a riddle of his own. Turandot does not solve it, but the Prince tells her the answer anyway, placing his life in her hands. She decides to spare him and they marry.

The story is inspired by the Persian epic Haft Peykar but Puccini decided to have it take place in Beijing instead. This was Puccini's last opera as it was still unfinished when the composer died in 1924, and it was completed by Franco Alfano two years later.

"Leave the boy to me!
- He belongs to me!
No, no! He's mine, he's mine!" For day 3 #bait of #inktober2019 , I chose an episode of Parsifal, another opera by Richard Wagner.
As Parsifal, knight of the round table, makes his way to the castle of Klingsor the sorcerer, the latter first tries to stop him.
At first, he sends knights, but after they fail, Klingsor relies on Flower-maiden, beautiful creatures he has conjured from the flowers of his garden.

This is a classic case of testing the hero's determination in his quest as well as morals, as succumbing to the female seductress archetypes charms is seen as a fatal weakness in many religions and systems of beliefs.

Many scholars have pointed out that this is directly inspired from an episode of the life of Buddha Shakyamuni, as the demon Mara's daughters try to disturb his meditation.

Inspired by #Rochegrosse "le Chevalier aux fleurs" displayed at #museedorsay

"Fafner: Art thou over-bold ?
Siegfried: Bold or over-bold, I know not !
If fear thou canst not teach me,
surely my sword shalt thou feel." For day 2 "mindless", more of Siegfried! Wagner created him after a character from Grimm's fairy tales, a boy who was such a fool he had never learned to be afraid. On his quest in Wagner's opera, Siegfried seems more interested in learning fear than claiming Andvaranaut, the reward for his quest.

Wagner was working on this opera when his son was born so he named him Siegfried, after his stupid hero. Great parenting, 12/10
