VESSEL opens tomorrow, Friday, October 9, from 7 to 10 PM at The KINN in Venice.

Come see the exhibition, have a drink, and hear a live jazz piano set by Aaron Longsleeves.

Free RSVP through the link in bio. Use code SABBATIKAL100 at checkout.

I’m excited to include Split Star 2, 2025, by Ben Quinn (@ben__quinn). Ben returns to the star as both symbol and sensation, something familiar that becomes unstable through repetition, transparency, and color. The form seems to radiate outward and fold inward at once, making the painting feel like a map of an interior state.

Ben Quinn is a Los Angeles-based artist whose vibrating star form has become a central language within his practice. He received his MFA from California College of the Arts and his BFA from Columbus College of Art and Design.

Come experience Split Star 2 in person as part of VESSEL.

Summer Books is pleased to present our next installation, 1:3, a painting by Ben Quinn (@ben__quinn), in the vitrine at Outside Supply.

In 1:3 Ben Quinn breaks from his usual mode of full bleed painting while continuing to expand the motif of the star. Careful viewers of Quinn’s work will know that despite their initially chaotic appearance, his work is ruled by deep rhythms. 1:3 in particular demonstrates a tangible scale in which Quinn’s restraint reveals insights into devices of the work. Stopping the composition short of covering the whole canvas with the second layer, illusionary elements of stars and circles echo with a cymatic focus that hums with room to breathe. Where many of Quinn’s star paintings descend (or ascend) into themselves, these new geometries seem to levitate above the disorienting and often bright starscape. If Quinn’s other paintings invite the viewer to look within, this piece challenges us to look beyond. The painting is a portal opening, a broken rule and a new rhythm for Quinn’s practice.
