I am delighted to announce that I have a new role as Global Editorial Director of @vice magazine
😈
As someone who grew up reading Vice in the early 2000s, then went on to contribute in the late 2000s, this is a great honour. It informed my early work and publishing, and was inspired by things I loved: Apocalypse Culture, AnswerMe!, Mondo, RE:Search and so forth

I will be working alongside Editor in Chief, @kevinleekharas. We’ve been scheming for the last few months and are very excited to start putting our plans into action

The new issue features shoots by @ivar.wigan , @zeel_freel @icysaw @ahmedyalramly and @brandon.bowen , we are launching it this Weds 22nd in London

We have big dreams for the magazine, which will have primacy, as well as the members’ area, which will be our dominion and a home for a new + existing community. We have ambitious ideas about streams of other stuff that will come out of that including film, podcasts, events and experimental media

If we have been talking for years, I look forward to bringing you into the fold and harnessing some of the amazing creative energy I see every day, then unleashing it upon the world

‘Out of Order’ — Unseen Rave Archive (15/15) Epic NYE party on Garman Rd, Tottenham Hale London, Circa '97 Ben in later years helped me produce what would unintentionally be my first version of a rave photobook for a Uni project. It was stolen in a house robbery, but the experience of making it and flicking through the it kept the fire burning to someday make the real one. (Ben was the creative director and designer of my second edition) Thank you 🥰

Back in 2024 I posted a story about a man selling supposedly “hyper-realistic” latex masks to young Ukrainians wishing to evade conscription. For the new print issue of VICE, the Self Destruction Issue, one of my fave collaborators @julie_poly acquired some and used them as a basis for a fashion story styled by @sushiandbaklava taken in Europa by @ben_ditto

As we were putting together The Self-Destruction Issue of VICE magazine, Ukrainian photographer Julie Poly (@julie_poly) got in touch to say that she’d acquired some prosthetic masks that were being sold as disguises to help people avoid being conscripted into the country’s war with Russia. As you can see, they are extremely unsettling, but not as unsettling as being sent into a bombed-out field and hunted by a flock of exploding airborne drones.

South Korean drug lord Park Wang-yeol attempted to escape from prison where he is serving a 53–60 year sentence for the 2016 killings of three Koreans
🇰🇷
The plan involved escape via a drone capable of carrying a 75kg payload, as prisons in the Philippines do not use signal jammers. The plan was foiled after films of his associates practicing were leaked on social media (as seen here)

Since I started back at VICE last year (after a 17 year break), we have been on a mission to get back to the roots of what makes VICE great. And that, of course, is the talent we work with. @jake_hanrahan epitomises what I consider excellent reporting so I am delighted that we have a new @awaydays.tv x @vice collaboration series starting tomorrow: Heavy Weekend.  💥 “Heavy Weekend is a series of rapid Away Days dispatches embedded amongst local countercultures across Europe. Each episode was filmed over the space of one weekend.
