You see the brilliance in him, even when he might not see it yet.

Sometimes all a young man needs to step into his greatness is the right blueprint and a nudge from someone who believes in him. ASCEND provides the mindset shift, confidence, and practical tools to turn his potential into purpose.

Be the leader who gives him that push.

We all live in our minds, and if you change your thinking, you change your life.

Seeing young black men not living their best lives or reaching their full potential broke my heart. Losing three young men who worked with me at Ben’s Chili Bowl made me jump into action. I wrote ASCEND: The Black Man’s Guide to Elevation, Success, and Purpose as a blueprint for every young man looking for more out of life.

You already have everything inside you to succeed. It’s time to take the steering wheel and drive toward your greatness.

When life doesn't go the way you planned, it's natural to ask, “Why me?”
But what if you also asked, “What now?”

That question doesn't dismiss your pain or pretend that every challenge is easy. It helps you look for the next step when you feel stuck.
What can this experience teach you? What support do you need? What is still within your control? What can you do today to move forward?

In ASCEND, the chapter “Gratitude Is My Attitude” encourages a shift in perspective, not by ignoring hardship, but by recognizing that hardship is not the whole story.

Have faith. Give yourself room to process what you're facing. And when you're ready, look for the next step you can take.

You may not control every situation, but you can work toward choosing your response.

When a challenge comes your way, what helps you keep moving forward?

You don't have to have everything figured out to start moving forward.

Maybe there's a skill you need to learn, a habit you need to build, or a goal you've been putting off.

Start somewhere. Stay consistent. And don't be afraid to learn from people who've already walked the road you're trying to travel.

Every step counts when you're intentional about where you're going.

Don't just talk about the man you want to become. Put in the work to become him.

It's easy to see what other people need to change. But how honest are you willing to be with yourself?

Look at your habits, your decisions, and how you're spending your time. Are they moving you closer to the man you want to become?

Growth starts when you take responsibility for where you are and become intentional about where you're going.

And remember, you don't have to figure everything out on your own. Sometimes, the right guidance can help you see what you couldn't see for yourself.

Be honest about where you are. Be intentional about where you're going. And stay open to learning along the way.

I've been thinking about how we sometimes get so focused on where we want to go that we don't pay enough attention to the person we're becoming along the way.

Are we keeping our word? How are we treating people? Are we living by the values we say matter to us?

Those things might not get much attention, but they say a lot about who we are.

And you don't have to have everything figured out to make a difference in somebody else's life. Sometimes, it starts with how you show up for the people around you.

That's one of the things behind ASCEND: growth isn't just about what you achieve. It's also about who you become along the way.

If someone who knows you well described the kind of man you are today, what would you hope they say?

I've been thinking about how easy it is to keep things to yourself when life gets hard. You tell people you're good, keep moving, and figure you'll work it out somehow.

But we all need somebody in our corner sometimes.

And brotherhood isn't just about the good times. It's about having people you can be real with, people who check on you, and people who don't make you feel like you have to have everything figured out.

That's something worth thinking about.
