SAVE THE DATE: Our 6th annual Southern Supper is Sat, Sept 26. This is our potluck dinner where we invite everyone, but have two rules…no religion or politics at the table. Today we live in such silos that have fractured communities and made things like luncheon-on-the-grounds and community potlucks largely a thing of the past. We started Southern Supper cause we miss those days and those times spent today. Bring a side, salad, starter, or dessert and we’ll have all the fried chicken, bread, and sweet tea you can handle. We have friends that come from all over the country for this even and join us at the table with so many of our generations old friendships. In our opinion it’s a perfect autumn day in Kentucky. NEW DATE ADDED! Okay, so this is really cool. We were not expecting the demand for the VIP day we added to our Sept Workshop at Walton’s Creek to be so popular. Sometimes I worry I take this life for granted. It all feels just like it did as a kid dreaming of things I wanted to do here on this farm. It all feels like playing in my playhouse still. I think I forget that it’s not just me watching Martha Stewart on Saturday mornings and crafting in my coal house or playing in the lilies, or pulling cakes out of the easy bake oven. I don’t think it ever register with me that not everyone gets to live their dreams. Not everyone gets to turn their childhood dreams and fantasies into memories. I still see myself as the kid in the garden picking beans with Aunt June or standing on the stool in her kitchen making cakes. I still see myself planting pumpkins out front with Grandy and selling them with the honor system jar in the front yard. The continuity, largely linked by the cicadas and lightening bugs and summers under the willow oak feel like it just makes sense that my three bestfriends would be here because we all met online, of course they’d be here….even if as a kid I dreamt of this life to fill the void of feeling so different from my classmates at the county schools. It just makes sense that friends come from across the globe to teach in my studio and people from the corners of the country and Europe (and Australia) to this tiny no horse town) because I dreamt it as a kid. I guess I’m too busy living it to grasp how surreal it really feels. by @benashby
