006 “Untainted (traces left)” (Beñat Olaberria)

I came across Beñat’s work a while back and I loved the gestures, the textures, the graphic feeling mixed with seeming moments of energy and spontaneity. It felt musical and responsive to me.

The is a part of a series of Artwork Cycles i’ve been doing where I ‘draw’ the pink line across the artwork to turn it into a graphic score. I create some rules and functions to play within and create a piece.

This Cycle is strings, synth and clarinet.

KNOTRUGS X BEÑAT

A flashback to September 2025, when @knotsrugs and I launched our collaboration.

One of the things I enjoyed most about this project was the process of bringing my paintings off the canvas and into the world of textiles.

Seeing the paintings translated into rugs was a fascinating journey, watching colours, forms and textures shift, change and take on a new physical presence. There was something very special about seeing an image I had created as a painting become an object that could inhabit a space, be touched, walked over and experienced in a completely different way.

It was a beautiful process of transformation, allowing the paintings to leave the canvas and take on a new life of their own.

I truly enjoyed every step of this journey, and I’m very grateful to the @knotsrugs team for making it possible.
