@enhancementtt performance of a new score for 1922 Swedish folk-horror film Häxan tomorrow at the Academy Museum in Hollywood. 1/11 2:30pm

Music for portative organ + voice + CDJS. Pitched edits of period music, foley and new original cues ft. the voice of @glasser_ 🕷️🪱

We do not know in what order they were used, whether they were used more than once, whether some pieces were used but not printed in the list, what part of each piece was used, which editions of the music were used, or with which part of the film the music was paired. “This set of longform ambient pieces was born from a collaboration between artist Gabriel Cohen and composer Ben Babbitt. Beginning in 2021, Cohen commissioned a sound piece for their clock tower sculpture entitled Consolidation (after Cleopatra’s Needle, Tatlin’s Tower) that would act as a timekeeper, a la bells chiming on the hour. This evolved into a suite of twelve sixty minute pieces transmitted through speakers inside the clock’s pendulum.

Made using only digital synthesis, the pieces wind their way through beating sine wave choirs, physically modeled pulses stacking and phasing, and occasional gusts of grainy white noise tearing through the flickering resonance. Time slips and stretches, the hourly chimes like buoys in an otherwise formless expanse.” - @noonprojects by @benbabbitt_

Hi. I’m in a play called the End is New at the Redcat downtown. I’ll be onstage playing the score and doing some acting. I have a headset mic and a monologue. Wtf. Been a fascinating process. Tonight is opening night. I’m excited

Today would’ve been my father Frank’s 66th birthday. After he died, my family and some of his friends at the Lyric Opera Orchestra, where he played in the viola section, put together a celebration of life concert. @aurelienpvf encouraged me to write something but it was hard to find a way in, still so raw. I realized I could use the starting letter of each name in my family to make chords for the strings to play. The sounds felt right. Like a musical sigil more than an idea. I didn’t want to use any Fs until the very end, when the basses shift under the ending chord, a low F fading slowly. It was an honor to hear these people I grew up knowing play it that night. Happy birthday Frank 🎻🕊️ <3

Enhancement is the solo alias of LA artist Ben Babbitt. After producing and scoring projects with artists like Eartheater, Colin Self, Angel Olsen, Weyes Blood, Bapari, directors Zia Anger, Martine Syms, and Amanda Kramer, and writing the acclaimed OST for Kentucky Route Zero.

Enhancement arrived in late
2024 with ‘Communication’ feat. White Boy Scream and smoldering b-side ‘Ignis Ash’ on his imprint @chlorisworld 2024 also saw shows across Europe and the UK, DJ sets at Shygirl’s Club Shy, a @relativaradio party in Madrid, @halcyonveil night in Hollywood, mixes on Kiosk Radio, NTS, the Lot Radio, and a string of live dates supporting Chelsea Wolfe in the US.
