⚔️ What… A… YEAR! ⚔️

Year two at Mesa Vista was one we’ll never forget. This track season was filled with moments, memories, and accomplishments that reminded us why we do this.

🏆 Back-to-back District Champions (1st repeat district champs since 2008-2009)
🥇🥇 Boys 4x800 Relay — Back-to-back State Champions AND back-to-back State Records (breaking our own record from last year)
🥈🥈 Ezequiel Nevarez — State Runner-Up in both the 800 and 1600 while setting school records in BOTH events
🥉 Andres Valdez — 3rd place in the hurdles and a new school record (breaking his own)
⚡️ 5th place finish in the Medley Relay with the 2nd fastest time in MVHS history

More than the medals and records, it was a special year because of the student athletes and our community! This season renewed my love for coaching and confirmed that we are EXACTLY where God needs us to be. Forever grateful we took the leap and will never look back on the poison of the past!

Proud of every athlete who wore black and gold this year! The standard continues to rise 📈

TEAM NM GSW RUNNERS-UP🏆

So grateful for the opportunity to coach the boys relays for the past three years. What makes this experience so special is the hardworking young men who represent New Mexico every year. Their commitment, pride, and effort are the reason I keep coming back!

Over the last three years, Team New Mexico has continued to climb the standings, moving from 4th place to now 2nd place as a team. It’s been incredible to watch these athletes compete with heart and represent our state at a HIGH level!

A huge thank you to Coach Harvey Carreathers @harveycarreathers for bringing me on board three years ago. Coach Harvey is a living legend, and it’s been an honor to help build with you! You’re a great coach, friend, and mentor!

This meet continues to be one of the highlights of my summer. Proud of these athletes and proud to represent New Mexico!

First year at the high school level. Big school. Varsity letter. OBC Championship medal. Special acknowledgement award.

But honestly? None of that is what made me the proudest.

This year, my daughter ran track for the first time at a large high school where she had to earn every single step. And she did. She showed up, she put in the work, and the hardware followed.

But the story actually starts a couple of years ago — one season at her small private middle school with a coach who was absolutely incredible. That program may have been small, but that coach was mighty. He planted something in my daughter that season: a love for the sport, a belief in herself, and a foundation that quietly carried her all the way to where she is today. We never forgot that, and we never will.

Fast forward to this year, and I watched her do so much more than compete. I watched her learn how to push through when it's hard. How to be a teammate. How to really compete — and come out on the other side knowing more about herself than she did before.

That growth? That's the stuff no trophy case can hold.

Baby girl, I am so proud of you. Not just for what you won, but for who you're becoming. And to that coach who started it all — thank you. Year one down. 🔥

The Great Southwest Track Meet is OPEN TO ANY high school athlete in New Mexico! No qualifying standards required. Last year The Boys of Team NM finished 3rd overall and I’ll be returning this season to coach the boys relays!

Whether you compete in 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, or 5A… this is your chance to compete against the best in New Mexico AND the best in the country! Let’s show out. 💪🌵

🗓 Registration Deadline: Sunday, May 31, 2026 @ 10:00 PM PST

💲 $85 registration fee (+ surcharge)
⚠️ NO meet-day registration

🏅 Top 6 finishers earn medals
