🚨 Exclusive: The White House made a direct call to FIFA to ask Gianni Infantino to review Folarin Balogun’s red card.

FIFA approached for comment and referred to the findings of its independent committee.

FIFA sources insist White House influence could not affect the decision due to the powers contained in Article 27 and the independent nature of the disciplinary panel. by @bendavidjacobs

🚨 BREAKING: Manchester City confirm that at 7pm on Thursday 1st October the Club lodged its “comprehensive Appeal against the opinion of the Premier League Commission”.

City add “the Club’s firm position is that, on multiple grounds, the opinion contains clear material errors, of law, principle and fact and is unsafe.

“The Club is innocent of the accusations made by the Premier League and a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence exists in support of all of its positions, relating to this case.

“We will continue to respect due process and are necessarily restricted in what we can say further until all proceedings are complete.” by @bendavidjacobs

Manchester City statement: “Manchester City FC is both disappointed and surprised by the opinion of the Premier League Commission, that has been published today.

“The Club is innocent of the accusations made by the Premier League and a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence exists in support of all of its positions, relating to this case.  The Club will therefore be relentless, and where necessary proactive, in any and all appropriate regulatory and legal forums.

“The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements uncompleted.   Manchester City FC will now pursue the appeal avenues open to it, on the basis that the opinion contains clear material errors, of law, principle and fact, and is unsafe.

“The Club has diligently respected due process for eight years on the basis that the Premier League Board and Executive would behave as an independent, impartial and fair-minded regulator, free from partisan influence.

“The Club is obviously restricted in what it can say further until all future proceedings are complete.” by @bendavidjacobs

🚨 BREAKING: The Premier League confirm an independent Commission has found Manchester City guilty of all charges related to serious breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules over a nine-season period, and the majority of charges in relation to its failure to co-operate with the League’s investigation.

The independent Commission found that between Seasons 2009/10 and 2017/18:

“Manchester City arranged ‘sham’ contracts (which misrepresented the true agreement between the parties) with a number of its commercial partners, as well as relying on ‘sham’ agreements with others, to artificially inflate the club’s revenues and reduce its costs.

“The club filed misstated accounts and concealed the true state of its finances from its auditors and football regulators.

“Manchester City was significantly in breach of both the Premier League’s and UEFA’s spending limits.

“During the Premier League’s investigation, Manchester City committed multiple breaches of its duties of co-operation and utmost good faith towards the League (three of the four alleged breaches were upheld).

“The independent Commission found that Manchester City arranged ‘sham’ commercial deals with a number of its sponsors during the period, which were part of a disguised funding scheme, whereby those companies were only required to pay a portion of the relevant sponsorship fees. The remainder was funded by Abu Dhabi United Group Investment & Development Ltd (ADUG), which owned the club. As part of the scheme, further ‘sham’ arrangements, funded by ADUG, were entered into to enable the club to record lower operating expenses than it actually incurred, as well as a ‘sham’ circular arrangement with Fordham, an entity that purchased the club’s players’ image rights, that was funded by ADUG.” by @bendavidjacobs

🗣️ Strong words on Gianni Infantino from Aleksander Čeferin at the EFC General Assembly. Although the FIFA President isn’t directly named, he’s compared to the emperor in Hans Christian Andersen’s famous book.

“I call to mind Hans Christian Andersen’s The Emperor’s New Clothes. In the book an emperor is persuaded he’s wearing magnificent clothes, which only the foolish or unfit can’t see. His court goes along with it, until a child says all along what everyone can see... the emporer is naked! Perhaps the moral story is convenient words can’t change umcomfortable realities.

“World football has heard some very comfortable words recently... like reform and development, but it doesn’t change the picture, however big the cheque may be.

“Imagine one of your senior executives secretly negotiating away one of your crown Jewells, and your board, players and fans didn’t know. Once you find out, what would your board do?

“Imagine the same person creates an award for a politican, and soon after the politican takes a phone call, the rules are not the same anymore. How many times would it have to happen at your clubs before the board say enough. It is time to say enough.

🗣️ BREAKING: Nasser Al-Khelaifi says football is “wasting our time” dealing with problems created by Gianni Infantino. “World football is also really important for our clubs. We all watched the FIFA World Cup 2026 this summer - 857 players came from European clubs, that is nearly 70% of all the players and the equivalent make-up of 33 of the 48 teams. I hope people finally see the value of the clubs. We are so proud to have our players playing for the national teams - we have pride in every football shirt they wear.

“It is really sad to see the situation today. Instead of improving our game, we are wasting our time dealing with problems and issues. Football works when we listen to each other. When we are transparent between us. When we love football and work for football, and nothing else. But most of all, when we are honest. And whatever our differences - football is bigger and more important than any one of us.” by @bendavidjacobs

🚨 BREAKING: Nasser Al-Khelaifi plans to create ‘World Football Clubs’ (WFC) “as soon as possible” as part of EFC expansion. Viewed by some here in Copenhagen as an unofficial sixth ‘confederation’ to challenge FIFA/Gianni Infantino’s power.

“The EFC has become a global network and platform for clubs to connect to anyone. We create benefits for clubs inside and outside of Europe. That is why now is the time to create World Football Clubs.

“The EFC’s role is not only to represent clubs through good governance; we will work harder to give every club the chance to succeed. More benefits, more ideas, more innovations. Football is changing every day. Young people experience football differently from the way many of us did. They move between the physical and digital worlds, without seeing a difference. The relationship between sport, entertainment, media and technology is evolving so fast - and EFC will continue to help all our members adapt, grow, and be fit for the future.

“Our clubs today are also more global and more international than ever, whilst still being part of the fabric of their local communities. Our players, our coaches, our competitions, our fans, our owners, our partners, our footprints, our brands... they all have local roots but global impact. Supporters can follow their club from Copenhagen to Cairo, New York to Tokyo - all with the same feeling as in the stadium.” by @bendavidjacobs
