In 1976, for the Bicentennial Celebration of the United States of America, this not yet five year-old version of myself was honored to be selected as a grand marshal for the Perrysburg Ohio Bicentennial parade. I don’t really have any recollection of this because I was so young. But it was the first time I probably really celebrated the Fourth of July with a sincere sense of pride and investment because I was actually participating; & that is KEY! Participation is pivotal. Skin in the game is key, to this “grand experiment’s” success.

At 250 years, we are still a very young nation compared it to Iran, Vietnam, Bulgaria, Egypt, Ethiopia, China, Japan, San Marino, Greece, etc. and many others whom have existed for centuries. We are young and we are still figuring this out.

By all rights, this representative democracy shouldn’t exist. I’ve been across the ocean several times and each one of our states would normally be a country of its own with its own leader, its own government, its own armies, and we would all be warring with each other and it would be going on for centuries. I don’t take that for granted and I don’t take it lightly.

Admittedly, I’m not pleased with the direction our nation is going right now (for all kinds of reasons), but I also know that WE are the agents of change that can turn it into what we want it to be. I can be optimistic about that. I believe that we can be better to each other and listen to each other and look out for each other and stand stand up for each other in ways that many of us are not currently doing. I believe we can do this I’m not sure we’ve ever fully realized the full potential for the outcomes of this American experiment.

May we continue to be vigilant in being stewards of this fragile and resilient Republic that was created 250 years ago. George Washington, in his first inaugural address, described the “republican model of government” as an “experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people.” May we hold this nation, not with a closed fist, but with open hands, allowing our country to become what it was always meant to be, and probably hasn’t been quite yet.

@theartistsway2020 #TheArtistsWay journal 📔 for my “Morning Pages” had a great quote today from @juliacameronlive this morning. I hope it encourages and inspires you, too.

“IT IS POSSIBLE, QUITE POSSIBLE, TO BE BOTH AN ARTIST AND ROMANTICALLY FULFILLED. IT IS QUITE POSSIBLE TO BE AN ARTIST AND FINANCIALLY SUCCESSFUL”

Truly enjoyed a great #WonderwallSyrah from @fieldrecordingswine tonight while binging @showtime ‘s @pennydreadful and then @Hbo ‘s new @perrymasonhbo ! LOVED IT (the wine AND the shows)! Dark and gritty origin story for Mason and Director @timvanpatten created a beautiful picture of a moody, sinister 1930’s L.A.! Can’t wait for next week! (Even a chance you might yours truly running across the screen!😉) Btw, #rolinjones and #ronfitzgerald started Chapter 1 strong!! Interesting writing at a deliberate pace - lots of intrigue and back-stabbing in this world & it’s not showing it’s hand yet!! taken in Los Angeles/Hollywood California by @bendigo1
