The interview is about the incredible experience of painting Olivia Neel. Olivia is the subject of many of her famous grandmother Alice Neel’s paintings. Tris talks to me about how our two families crossed paths in the 1940’s, how Alice painted two members of my family, and how her granddaughter Olivia landed in my pink armchair in the @elevatorjc building to become the latest addition to my #pinkarmchairportraits project. This is a special painting with a very deep and layered history. I will be premiering this painting @artfair14c in Jersey City at the Central Railroad Terminal in Liberty State Park (Oct. 12-15)

True story folks. Yes I draw comics from time to time - and yes this did happen … And although @philipglass ( hey Mr.Glass) didn’t share the potato pancake on that particular night, his actions did inspire this comic. In the years since, I’ve had to cut down on my latke intake #cholesterol. I also learned through mutual acquaintances that Philip is a really nice guy and I was thrilled to see my comic retweeted by the man himself.#latke #philipglass #comics #graphicnovel by @benfinepainting

Heading to Miami @scopeartshow with my limited first run sea anemone lamps. These little lamps are totally #mesmerizing. The process of making them was intense and couldn’t have happened without the help of my friends @jnotine and @salmotion99 They come with a remote control to change colors. If you’re in #miami come see them live and you will fall into a trance. For this series, created during my residency @arts14c I painted each person while journalist Tris McCall and I recorded a conversation with them. The paintings and films become two ways of getting to know the same person…through image, voice and story.

Filmmaker and former professional skater Monihan Monihan (@monihan ) joined us in the pink armchair to be painted ( by @benfinepainting ) and to talk about his early west coast punk roots. He was once dubbed “the most hated skateboarder “ in the world - a title he wears proudly. #confidence by @benfinepainting

One of the joys of the Pink Armchair residency @project14c was welcoming remarkable artists into the conversation.

Bandola virtuoso, composer, and producer @maferbandola joined us in the chair, sharing her journey from Venezuela, her music, and the experiences that have shaped her life. Through her stories, she showed us how music can carry memory, culture, and connection across borders.

Thank you, Mafer, for sharing your artistry, your story, and your generous spirit with us. It was an honor to have you as part of the Pink Armchair series.
