Two merch designs for @clairo and the fifth anniversary of her beloved album Sling 🤍

Always such a profound pleasure working with the amazing Clairo and an honor to be invited to take a swing at such a classic album and be part of the fantastic team of designers contributing to it. My wonderful girlfriend @benitaguo hand beaded the tote bag design based off of an incredibly rough sketch of mine, while the tshirt graphic was folded, cut by hand and illustrated from construction paper into a little party of pink people.

Vénus Impudique
Look 06 Unmaking the Quilt 🟪🔺🟧🔶🟦

Vénus Impudique celebrates a different craft historically associated with women.

This look explores quilting. Instead of constructing a fully quilted garment, I extracted the triangles and squares that form its foundation. Traditionally, quilting is built up in layers to create warmth. Here that function is stripped away: the shapes are used purely aesthetically, applied in a contrasting material to juxtapose against quilting’s original purpose and speak to the hardship beneath it.
The necklace uses quilling, a paper craft practiced by French and Italian nuns and monks during the Renaissance before spreading to England, where it became a fashionable pastime for women and was taught to schoolgirls as part of art education. I reinterpret this traditionally feminine craft with a deconstructed aesthetic, replacing conventional quilling paper with bioplastic sheets and embellishing the piece with sequins and beads generously sponsored by @ateliermontex. 🤍

🥐 necklace handcrafted from bioplastic, decorated with sequins generously sponsored by @ateliermontex. 🤍

They look in a woman’s bag and see a jumble of objects. I look and see the tools required by women in our everyday, evidence of our lived reality in civilization.

Tiny rituals. Survival tools. Beauty. Money. Communication. Memory. In uniform, as a kid, we had grown up without pockets. Somewhere between the keys and the lipstick we started carrying a greater weight.

Handbag with scene of Venus of Willendorf and a great fire in London. Bangles inspired by traditional Indian protective jewelry worn by women.

Inspired by the Altai Princess, a 2,500-year-old mummified woman discovered buried in the Siberian permafrost, whose intricately tattooed body serves as a timeless archive of her memory, survival and elevated status. The animal motifs, featuring scenes of griffins, panthers and tigers hunting stags, are adapted from her tattoos, and have been reinterpreted here through hand-crafted bio-ornaments, scattered across the game jacket like enduring scenes playing out over the skin.

Each ornament is made from algae powder, transformed into bioplastic through a long and meticulous process of cooking, casting, cutting, and refining. Every piece is shaped by hand, trimmed with scissors, and quality-checked one by one. Created over hundreds of hours with the help of my helpers and collaborator, these tiny pieces carry the time, patience, and care behind them.

This look connects an ancient woman whose body has been preserved for millennia with the invisible labour and craft that continue to preserve women’s stories today. It was made with the help of: @leohorton @cobbleeisyuh @beikkori
