𝓕𝓛𝓞𝓞𝓓: ‘Monomyth’ (2026) by Ben Jamie.

Sand, wax and charcoal give the surface an almost geological density, while forms suggest forests, bodies and strata without resolving into direct representation. Its title invokes the recurring structure of ordeal, transformation and return.

Ben Jamie’s paintings occupy a space between landscape, abstraction and image, using restricted colour, repeated motifs and layered surfaces to create works that feel simultaneously organic and psychologically charged. Forms suggest forests, bodies, apertures or geological structures without settling into straightforward representation. Materials including sand, wax, distemper and charcoal are worked into the surface alongside oil paint, giving his imagery a tactile density and emphasising painting as a physical object as much as a pictorial space.

𝓕𝓛𝓞𝓞𝓓: We are very pleased to welcome Ben Jamie back to OHSH Projects' programme, having previously exhibited his work in POST-POST-WAR (2023).

Ben Jamie’s practice delves into the depths of human emotion, employing paint as a conduit to explore themes of impermanence, memory, and the human condition. His imagery is frequently veiled and ambiguous, inviting viewers to construct their own narratives and interpretations.

Drawing from personal experience, historical reference, and introspective observation, Jamie creates layered, enigmatic works that exist in the fluid space between figuration and abstraction.

Born in Nottingham, Ben lives and works in London, UK.
