Spent some time at Salt Creek Beach in Dana Point, CA this week and finally put my 70-200mm to work. The longer lens is perfect when I want to keep my distance from the water, and the soft light before sunset made these frames even better. by @benjaminleepov

I was walking through Lower Nob Hill in SF looking for some good night photos. I spotted a dude and his dog at a light, so I took a quick snap and kept on walking – until he called out after me to ask what I was doing.

I walked back to meet him and showed him the photo I took. The tension vanished immediately once he saw the shot. We ended up taking a few more impromptu street portraits right there on the sidewalk and walked away with some good memories.

I was walking along the SF Marina and spotted this biker parked right by the water. With the Golden Gate in the background and late afternoon light hitting just right, walking away without shooting this would've been criminal negligence.

Glad I didn't pass it up.

Union Square is just a goldmine for street photography.

You have all the foot traffic of tourists mixed in with interesting locals.

There are cameras everywhere so people expect it. That makes it easier to be patient, wait for the scene to develop, and catch better moments.

Meet the Porsche 356C – the legendary precursor to the 911 and the car that put Porsche on the map.

But as iconic as the shape is, I couldn’t stop looking at the paint.

The owner shared a fun piece of automotive lore: back in the 1960s, dark green was the signature of British sports cars, especially names like Jaguar and Aston Martin. As someone who drives a British Racing Green Mini Cooper, this detail caught my attention.

Porsche, not to be outdone, created its own answer: Irish Green, introduced on the 356C in 1964.

It was Ferry Porsche’s all-time favorite color. Seeing it glow in the sun, it’s easy to understand why.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend a photography workshop hosted by @canonusa and @samyscamera, and it was such a valuable experience.

The workshop was led by two instructors, each covering a different side of photography.

One of my biggest takeaways from @jlphotographic was this: when things don’t go according to plan, make a new plan. There are always photo opportunities if you’re willing to look for them. He shared how unexpected moments ended up leading to new clients down the line. Jeff also emphasized the importance of printing your photos – because holding an image in your hands feels completely different than viewing it on a screen. That’s something I’ve been wanting to do more of, so I’m excited to finally get started.

@vanessajoy focused on the business side of photography and gave us a real look at all the work that goes into completing an assignment. It’s not just about showing up and taking photos – it’s also about all the details behind the scenes, like charging your gear ahead of time and packing everything so you’re ready to go.

We also had the chance to work with two models and practice the portrait techniques Vanessa taught us. She shared valuable insight on directing and posing your subject, working with available natural light, and using techniques like intentional blur to create more interesting images.

Huge shoutout to the models, @tatumbrooke_ and @abyonausar , for pushing through the hot sun. I’ve never had the opportunity to work with professional models before, so it was eye-opening to experience how much of a difference it makes when your subject is feeling comfortable and confident in front of the camera.

Overall, this was a phenomenal experience. I walked away feeling inspired, motivated, and excited to shoot more 📸 by @benjaminleepov
