Homologeō is, as you’ve probably guessed, a Greek word. It’s used more than 25 times in the New Testament.The homo refers to “same” as in homogenize, homonym, and so forth. The logeō part is “say” or “speak.” Together, the word has the literal meaning of “to say the same thing.”In the New Testament, homologeō is often translated as “confess” or “confession. For instance, we read (1 John 4:15)”Whoever confesses and acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.“Literally, this could be read as “if we say the same thing as God is saying, We abide in Him and He in us!! Selah (סֶלָה) is a Hebrew word, commonly appearing in Psalms, typically pronounced seh-LAH (accent on the second syllable). It signifies a moment to stop and meditate on the preceding lyrics ("pause and think of that") or a musical interlude. Theological Importance: It functions to place heightened reverence on a phrase or change the intensity Naomi (נָעֳמִי) is a Hebrew name meaning "pleasantness," "sweetness," "gentleness," or "delight". When the Lord spoke to us about our daughter He just gave us a name and all we knew was it was in the Bible and in the book of Psalms. Later as I began to study the meaning more I realized that God was giving us an invitation to pause and reflect. Pause and meditate. pause and praise. In a world where it is popular to be busybodies our strength, our significance, our most needed things are found in the moment of pausing. Selah is a testament and a reminder for every instruction, for every sermon, for every word, for every situation, it is imperative that we pause and think.And with a face like that we can all tell how sweet she is, how pleasant she is, how gentle she is, and of course how delightful. But Naomi is our reminder that God is all of that for us. She will find her delight in Him as He delights in her. She will experience true gentleness and not have to be rough because she has a Father who has displayed this to her. As we welcome our daughter into the world I have no choice, but to pause, reflect, and praise on God’s goodness. Our lives were moving so fast when she came and she gave us the invitation we needed to take a pause. As I sit here with my wife with her, I have never felt such peace, such rest. She sleeps a lot because she has learned and mastered resting and even as my wife holds her she feels the invitation to rest. When someone does something to you there is a voice in your head telling you why they did it and why you should be offended. I spent years in shame and condemnation and labeling myself as incapable of God using me. I said I will just hide and be quiet because I have no right to say anything based on the mistakes I made.
