So today is my birthday. Not a biggie. Turning 42 - iykyk. It’s Douglas Adams’s world and we’re just living in it. Bring a fucking towel you hobo.

The only thing I really want to say today is thank you to my mother, who gave birth to me.

Without you, I wouldn’t be here, experiencing what I get to wake up to every day. Y’all have no idea. I’m feeling like an absolute king today - and somehow, this feels like it might just be the pre-stage of what life has to offer in the near future.

So, Mom, today is actually the day I need to celebrate you. For giving me life. For giving me your best. For everything that came with it.

Happy Birthday, Dad ❤️

You would have turned 70 today, and I’m sure it would have been an absolutely legendary party with all your friends.

This picture shows us in 1984, before all the cancer and illness. Just a madman with the energy of the blazing sun, building something from nothing and creating a life for my mother and our family that no one in this bloodline had ever experienced before.

Today, nearly five years after your passing, I sometimes wonder if I will ever have the grit and toughness to do the same for the people I love. But then I look at the people around me, and they reflect it back to me. They remind me that I’m tougher than I think.

So I guess you planted something inside me that still burns bright-hotter than anything else. Something that allows me to keep chasing my dreams, always pushing forward, with your voice in my head and your final words in my heart.

On your deathbed, with your last breath, you looked at me and said:

“I love you, son.”

Those words have stayed with me ever since.

God bless you and the tough love you gave me.

One of the two people in these photos graduated high school today. 🎓

Watching you grow from that little kid into the incredible young woman you are today has been nothing but a privilege.

I’m beyond proud of you, Lilian.

Wherever life takes us, you’ll always have a place with me - literally, and in my heart.
