I started heading down the sand dune, it was impossible for me to stand, I got to slide, in total darkness. I did not know where I was heading nor the speed I was gonna face. Sliding, my boots were soon filled with sand, they submerged my feet up to the ankles, I sat down to swing my hands to push myself forward, and then I heard the reverberation below me: the sand was sliding in the dunes even long after I stopped. A sound that has never entered my ears. Walking in darkness only lit by the dancing stars, they took me back to my truck.

On the way home I kept thinking what might have been the view up there. Perhaps there are things in life that remain to be hidden, perhaps it wasn‘t weakness that kept me from going, and perhaps there’s simply another hill as steep awaits . I drove on the dark winding mountain road, squinting my eyes to get a clear view of the lightless road, pondering…. by @benludp

Rushed down the hill, in the fear of missing out the sunset at the sand dune, parked and went straight for the dunes. The sand was slippery and was hard to wield force upon, and the dune seemed to be stretching afar infinitely. Laid my eyes on the tip of the highest point of the dune mountains, I trekked. The sun was setting and I was only half way through, sped up but I was already panting heavily, and had to catch my breath every once in a while. As I found myself in front of a 60 degree slope. I climbed anyway, crawling along with my hands, and stretched my palms to the max, trying hard to increase the surface with the sand. After reaching to the tip of that dune, I found myself facing an even steeper slope standing, it seemed to be the highest point of the dunes, I was determined to go.

It’s getting dark, the sun had already set, and I started climbing. I had to use my full force along with my hands. Every few meters I was out of breath, fatigued and lying face down to catch my breath. I sensed the constant breeze gently grazing the sand on my left, I hardly shield it with my hand, sand sizzled around me. Not knowing how much time I repeated this process, finally I couldn’t tell the sand from the sky. I tried my best estimating the distance to the top but no matter how hard I climbed it did not seem to decrease. Exhausted, I kept telling myself something good is gonna happen at the top, but the steepness dominated me, I looked at the stars and pondered: perhaps I was not supposed to be there this time. “Weakness” I said to myself, but I could not move my legs, they gave up on me, my thigh was on the edge of cramping, sweating in the freezing desert, sand came in my mouth when I panted, trembling, I reconciled with myself. by @benludp
