Benna co is the ceramic practice or artist Kelly Murphy.
With formal training as a painter, Kelly has applied her painter’s feel for colour and form to the medium of ceramics, with intriguing and sometimes surprising results.
Unrestrained by any technical training in the ceramic arts, Kelly uses intuition and experimentation to create enigmatic compositions of colour, pattern and texture.
Often appearing as rich microbial worlds, landscapes viewed from a great height or the shifting sands of a seafloor -platters, plates and dishes are a riot of colour. Their wide flat faces offer the ideal surface to create glaze paintings to intrigue and beguile the viewer.
Vessels, with their wild sculptural forms allow the artist to incorporate texture and volume, layering up glazes to drip and run as they will. More than just a vessel for holding plants and flowers, these pieces are sculptural objects that can be appreciated in their own right, and Kelly views their creation as part intention, part collaboration with the materials.

Just a handful of toast plates that went online. These sell fast in the shop, I think because they make surprising little gifts that never fail to impress. They can be easily turned into wallhangings with some epoxy glue and a hanging loop.

A couple of little ones I managed to photograph and get online today. If you want to see my work in person my shop @pauliconceptspace is open 11-1 Monday-Friday and 10-2 Saturday. I’m currently making loads of new pieces for @melbourneceramicfair in October too. Yay! by @benna_co
