This was from my one night performing at Westbury Music Fair. Moment before I walked onstage I asked the security guard how many people were there. He said “about 3500” to which I replied, “😳Oh, this is my biggest audience ever!” And then the announcement “Please welcome Ben Nemzer!” 😅😅😅

Before “How did you do that?” comes a lot of “Can you watch this one more time?” 😂

I’ve been revisiting some old material and bringing it back in a whole new way. Hours of practice, little adjustments, and plenty of “one more time.”

Thanks to the friends family and wife who were willing—and unwilling—audiences along the way and offered feedback, @rosann_ruiz for prop customization, @joelward for living room sessions, and a special shout-out to @NickPaul!

Nothing like the thrill of bringing freshened-up material to the stage. Thank you to the hundred strangers in Minnesota who gave it such a warm welcome. 🍾✨

The biggest illusion in our show might be making it look like it only takes two people to pull it off. 🪄

The truth is, there are so many people working before, during, and long after we leave the stage to make every show happen—from the production and technical teams to the incredible crew who reset the theater and clean up the thousands (yes, thousands 😬) of playing cards we leave behind.

And unlike confetti… you can’t exactly vacuum these up.

We always make a point of thanking the housekeeping team from the stage, and when we know we’re leaving an especially ridiculous mess, we’ll sometimes bring a little gift or tip as an extra thank-you.

Because the magic may happen onstage, but it takes a whole lot of people behind the scenes to make it feel magical.

What an incredible time on our 1 week trip to Alaska. Although cruises are are small part of my work it’s one of the most exciting!

Special shoutout to birthday boy cruise director @cruisedirectorjayson for setting us for for success and the entire team at @princesscruisesentertainment for making our experience and the guests’ nothing short of… well… MAGICAL!

The best moments on stage you can’t script… or can you? 👀

Here’s an old comic’s technique called “Rolodexing.”

Basically, when you improvise something that works—or think of the perfect line five minutes AFTER the show—you file it away. Then, if that situation ever comes up again, you’re locked and loaded.

A couple months ago, while performing in a Cirque show, I did my signature banana routine more than 100 times. I used it as a chance to improvise and do crowd work, usually about people’s professions.

One night, my volunteer was an air traffic controller.

I had NOTHING.

Then after the show it hit me: I HAD TWO BANANAS. I COULD’VE USED THEM TO DIRECT AIR TRAFFIC! 🍌✈️🍌

Filed away.

Fast-forward to last week aboard the #NCLJade. I bring up a volunteer and ask what they do…

AIR. TRAFFIC. CONTROLLER.

This time, I was ready.

To the audience, it looks like a split-second improvised gag. In reality, I’d been waiting months to pounce on that opportunity again.

Fun story! 🃏🚢

Last year, @cassandra_magic and I were performing in Europe on @celebritycruises when bad weather forced us to skip a small port in the Azores, Portugal.

The problem? That’s where the next batch of entertainers was supposed to board.

By that point, Cassandra and I had already performed two completely different shows—over 90 minutes of stage magic—PLUS our magic workshop for the guests.

But we told the cruise director: “As long as you’ve got a camera and a projector, we can give you another show the guests will LOVE.

Then we came up with the show!

No big props. No illusions. Just a deck of cards, a camera, a projector, and a theater full of people.

An entire bonus show of close-up card magic… on a cruise ship. We performed it at 7pm & 9pm later that week and both performances caught standing ovations.

I think we need to call it “Magic on Deck.” 🃏🚢

Maybe next time we’ll actually do it on purpose. by @bennemzer

Cassandra’s birthday was a blast. (Not mine, some people didn’t read past the first last time 🤦

I had the best birthday in Vegas! Well not my birthday but celebrating the prettiest girl I know feels just as special. Some of our best Vegas friends and a few new ones made the rounds and the whole weekend ended here at @pinkysbyvanderpump at the @flamingovegas. 🦩

One of the best parts is the celebration keeps on going. I think when you turn 30 <again> like Cassandra just did we get to celebrate all year long! I’m excited to go to the @marcellohdz comedy show to celebrate more in November and there will have to be a surprise cake sometime between now and then. 🎤 🎂

I’m so lucky to have the best partner in life, an incredible travel companion, and the best person in the world to celebrate the biggest moments and especially lots of the small ones. 🗺️🫶🏻

I love you Cassandra. Here’s to another X amount of years. 🥰

Funny how putting in the work can feel a whole lot like play.

In my short time back in Los Angeles, I’ve been diving into the creative side of magic—and revisiting a routine I haven’t really touched since I was a kid. It feels like wandering back to where all of this began: remembering what made magic so much fun in the first place, what I love about being onstage, and how the right trick can become its own form of self-expression.

Sometimes moving forward means getting back to your roots. And sometimes the hardest work is the kind you can’t believe you get to call work. 🎩 🫧🔮 taken in Illusion Magic Lounge by @bennemzer
