A Farewell To Kings

by Samm Bennett
written & recorded 2026-09-07
Samm Bennett: vocal & Roland Taiko-1

I told the king “farewell”
king sez “yeah, I’ll see you ‘round”
I said “uh uh, no you won’t
you’re goin’ to the burial ground”
king sez “what’chu talking’ ‘bout?
I ain’t dead, I’m still alive”
I said “not for long, there, king!
I’m ‘bout to do some regicide”
he sez “regicide, what’s that?”
I said “that’s when you kill a king”
he says “well that won’t do at all!
I won’t approve that kinda thing”
I said “it’s happened lotsa times
plenty times throughout the past”
he sez “oh, so you gonna kill me?”
I said “hey, you catch on fast!”
…
then from my coat I pulled a number
the number .44
put a hole through his head
he fell down dead on the floor
the blood come seeping out
as blood is known to do
I stepped away so as to
not
get
any on my shoe
no regrets, he was a despot
it was the right thing to do
looked at him one last time and said
“farewell, king, and toodle-oo
and toodle-oo
toodle-oo" by @bennett.samm

Matt Gillan and I will be starting tonight’s concert in about 40 minutes or so. The people here at Daihiganji temple are so sweet, and the huge tatami room we’re playing in is gorgeous. They’ve got a specially made lantern at the gate to the temple, check it out! Haha! by @bennett.samm
