My new film ‘Valentino Flip Flops’ will have its World Premiere at the Kodak-sponsored ASCF Film Festival on September 19th.

Shot chronologically on a single reel of expired 35mm film, ‘Valentino Flips Flops’ won the @ascf_official Summer Mini Grant on the simple objective: two pages, no dialogue.

It’s an absurdist portrait of the LA river, and it’s an honor to screen alongside a program of analogue-only films.

Available exclusively on @flourishing.film September 21.

‘California is Burning’ won a Special Jury Mention for Best Student Documentary at Palm Springs International ShortFest.

It’s an honor to be awarded and screen in ‘Best of Fest’ at one of the largest Academy Award and BAFTA Qualifying short film festivals in the world. Thank you @psfilmfest for uplifting Altadena’s story.

Medici Scholar Bennett Curran enhanced his senior thesis film, thanks to support from the College of Fine Arts Medici Circle.

Curran, a senior pursuing his BA in Film & Television online, created his own film “California is Burning” to highlight the devastation brought by the Eaton fire in southern California. With his Medici scholarship, he was able to implement an additional new segment on the Pasadena Humane Society Animal Evacuation Center and an original musical score by Summer Davis.

“The experience of interviewing residents firsthand while creating this film has changed my life,” Curran said. “The residents of Altadena treated me with such compassion, and I am a better filmmaker for the challenges I overcame, conversations held, and lessons learned on this project,” he said.

Medici Circle support allows talented creatives like Curran to go beyond the classroom in projects outside the university.

“I am forever grateful that the CFA gives students this opportunity to expand their creativity and elevate their artistry. Thank you to Sylvia and Herbert Burton for your generosity in supporting my film!”

In this poetic story of resilience, Altadena residents and first responders recall the damages and response after the Eaton Fire burned their historic community.

“Altadena’s story is one of true human resilience, and shooting on film was the best way to capture the community’s grit, perseverance, and tenacity. The tangibility and authentic nature of film beautifully paid tribute to the thousands of homeowners who lost their generational property.

I love the look that cross-processing introduces to the picture. Through the heavy grain, the film transcends the objective and captures the devastating feeling of being surrounded by ash. It’s a privilege to have documented this historic event on film.” @bennettcurran
