No Easter eggs but I did stand on a wasp nest and got very badly stung. Still very itchy. Also when we got home we discovered penguins living under the house. Not sure what to do about either situation. Welcoming all suggestions. taken in Tararua Forest Park by @bennjeffries

We couldn’t hear very well but I’m pretty sure the horse that won the Castlepoint Beach Races was called Diggly Duggly Irish Potato. 🥔 In close second was Manuka Thrush, followed by Bullenbong Fashion.

Ahh, lemme tel ya bout dis time me n ya unc drank foftytwo stiff n shifts n sailed down da river in 1 of dem swan buts. We musta smok a hundy of dem servo ciggys. Al we hd to eat was a pak of pnuts n di duck ya unc shot wid a sling. Tok us 2 days b4 we got to dat hungas river mouth. Den she turn brackish. Sal all drying on ya burnt to shit skin. Outa beer n torch and noting 2 talk bout so we jus laugh. Fuk we laugh til ya sides hurt n den we hit da surf n da white water. Da fukn swan lost its head. We almst drown but we mak it. There is a bird who warbles at night here
you wake out of some fold thinking it’s dawn but neither she nor the light greets you.

Cyprus border the olive groves
your mother yells to come away from the
edge of the well.

Things you’ve always known but never seen
like the lines she remembers from before she could read, lines that wrote her disposition.
.
Or fate, absence the storyteller, touch the truth sayer
like holding an ear to your child’s chest and listening to her irregular heart.
.
So much of life’s pleasures and pains are entirely imagined. Desperate to know your inner world, she pries, and you offer up some half-truth.
.
Whittled down to a single sense,
her voice on the phone invents a new kind of love, full of open spaces.
.
In the garden of a Roman bathhouse, marble lies toppled. Nero’s wife, a headless deity, a krater half filled with earth.
.
And then Venus, looking away in modesty, a shroud to cover her breast. You kneel down to touch her feet.

In the orchard
early summer
we move between
raspberry canes
and blueberry thickets
‘i feel like a bird’
she says, her fingers dyed red
a berry in her mouth
white christmas lily
white hydrangea
she makes a bouquet
that looks like clouds
gaps in their stratus
show a still day sky to the south
and then faster than i ever
expect, it’s all gone
and the first stars are
showing.

I take many photographs but I am never in any of them because I am the one operating the contraption. Luckily, my friends are all very good looking. If you’re wondering, I’m also quite handsome. A humble 5’10” (in ski boots) with blue eyes and brown hair. We had a very busy spring, all these good looking people and me. Lots of golf, French themed things for our friends who moved to Ho Chi Minh City, smorgasbords, sausages and Earl Grey tea around our little remu table in Worser Bay.
