Everybody meet Perceval. (Percy)
Perceval was a famous Knight of King Arthur’s round table. Every King needs a loyal Knight.
He’s a Wire-haired Vizsla, and will be trained as a proper deer hunting dog.
Couldn’t be more stoked with him, absolutely beautiful nature. Very calm and affectionate. Big paws, eyebrows, little ginger beard, intelligent. The perfect match! 👀

This beautiful piece of timber has engendered many inspiring thoughts for me. It tells a story of my mantra overall when it comes to crafting and has inspired my new insignia which came to fruition this morning.

In the eye of the Creator
The Earth and the Tree
The Creation getting creative
Becoming busy with hands and heart.

I am somewhat of a Denzel Frothington with this one.

It’s been a real challenge for me, a tricky inclusion that I’ve never done before. But, like the healthy tree that never stops growing, I look to new heights to keep improving to.

@humphreys_timberframing_aus , a craftsman who I respect greatly once said:

“I get alot from my craft, but only ever equal to my sacrifice.

I find meaning in my work, to build something that will carry into the future, a lifespan determined by the respect and care that I place into it.”

Truss #2 (3/4) now complete.

Time to dust off, break it down, stack it away, reset the workshop, reset the mind, and do it all over again with the last Truss.

I wonder if Jesus ever got on the tools on a Saturday? Maybe a cheeky cashy… you know, render unto himself that which is Caesar’s for once… I doubt it.

P.S Fancy Noah whaling on one of these hammers for 100 years. Now that’s dedication. I bet Mrs. Noah was impressed with the size of his forearms…

I made a thing. I’m sure you all could think of better ways to spend your long weekend, but personally I hunkered down and got stuck into this bad boy.

A few facts for those who care:
-32 man hours of crafting.
-400-500kg estimated weight.
-6.0m span.
-45 degree pitch.
-260x150mm ‘live edge’ bottom chord.
-Crafted using Eucalyptus Obliqua (Messmate Stringybark).
-Trees were windfall on the last day of a waning winter moon, 2021.

This is Truss #3 out of 4 for my own place, ‘Studio 35’.

See story for process.
I really love what I do.
Thanks to @segats for mentoring me. Thanks to Slutto & the Bullet for chipping in. Thanks to @35southbuildingco for being my creative outlet.

The end of an era.

I guess it might seem trivial to some, but my new hat arrived today. The stark realization that my OG Akubra is now retired made me feel somewhat pensive.
Through 8 years of adventure, loss, triumph, disappointment, journeying, working, exploring, conquering, failing, and socializing this hat has been with me almost every step of the way through those years of life’s tuition.

On one occasion when playing for the Warner’s Bay Bulldogs the umpire came into the rooms pre-game to shake hands and accidentally stood on it. After starting the season 0-11 we won our first game that day. For the rest of the season I chased the umpire around in the pre-game greeting trying to hurl my hat in front of his feet like the palm leaves for Christ. My teammates loved it.

I almost feel as though writing a book from my hats perspective could make for an enthralling and fascinating manuscript.

Despite this ‘changing of the guard’ engendering many nostalgic memories for me, I await with pleasure the plethora of moments my new ‘lid’ will bear witness to.

‘Tis no accident that I now find myself championing @nickbadger ‘s own ‘all rounder’, as I’ve no doubt it was conceptualized with the intent of enduring a not too dissimilar caliber of intrepid episodes throughout the course of its life.

Happy retirement old boy, here’s to a new swathe of adventures!

Full version vid of some of todays success.
I actually love watching the boys do their thing. I often ponder at what makes me so darn obsessive about my craft, and this showcases a few of the reasons….
Cracker day out in one of my favorite places, good tunes, a bit of banter, but most importantly a highly capable team.
The feeling of delivering on expectations is one I find immensely fulfilling. The harder the road to completion, and the more beautiful the product, the better it is.
This is one of those prized moments. taken in Tunkalilla by @benny_krackers

Work has started on my latest project ‘Studio 35’.
I think I’ve just about maxed out on how many schemes I can dream up, now it’s time to achieve one of them!
I look forward to welcoming friends from far and wide to come stay and enjoy the work of my hands. Studio 35 will feature some of my best skills, and be filled with artwork or memorabilia of my travels and experiences, it will be based around what I think are some cool design ideas too.
All going well it should ooze the essence of Styxy.
