Noah Tanamal (22) aka DJ Benoahen is geen onbekende voor liefhebbers van soul, funk en oldschool hiphop. Als DJ, bassist én percussionist bij de soul/funk coverband Somethin’ Fresh weet hij precies hoe je een groove levend houdt. Opgegroeid met platen van Zapp, James Brown en Kool & The Gang, is zijn liefde voor de roots van hiphop diepgeworteld.

Naast muzikant is hij ook videograaf – en via de lens van zijn camera belandde hij midden in de wereld van breakdance, graffiti en muziekvideo’s. Daar ontdekte hij hoe vaak zijn jeugdhelden gesampled werden in de hiphop die volgde. Zijn dj-sets zijn een ode aan de classics: van bounce funk tot new jack swing, van soulvolle breaks tot funky basslines.

Verwacht een energieke warming-up vol zeldzame grooves, dikke vibes en een flinke dosis nostalgie. Oldschool, maar fris. Benoahen brengt de funk terug in Parkstad.

OUT NOW - Breakin’ Branch (Short Documentary Teaser) 15/12

“Luc, Marciano en Diego, drie B-boys van breakdancecrew HFC (Heerlen Fucking City), gingen naar het 52-jarig jubileum van de breakdancecrew Mighty Zulu Kingz in New York. Deze crew kwam voort uit de Zulu Nation, opgericht door Afrika Bambaataa in de jaren ’70 om de hiphopcultuur en positieve sociale verandering in de Bronx te bevorderen. De reis zorgde bij beide crews voor meer bewustzijn en verantwoordelijkheidsgevoel voor de toekomst, en HFC wil de rauwheid van de hiphop voortzetten in Heerlen.”
