Escalante -> Kanab

Still the coolest walking ever but maaan is it hot and all the water far too salty. Got a bit creative with my route to get me to the Grand Canyon quicker (cutting off ~80 miles) as I am running out of time before starting work for the winter. Sad to not have more time to wander but I’m just happy to be out here. I’ll be on the Arizona trail section tomorrow afternoon and am looking forward to some cruiser miles to the north rim where the real fun starts.
Also realized I’ve only crossed 2 paved roads in the 400+ miles I’ve walked so far. Pretty darn neat. I’m happy to say I’m only scratching the surface of what these areas have to offer as it leaves room for a lifetime of adventures 🏜️ 🐀 by @bensupron

Hanksville via rt 95 -> Escalante via hole in the rock rd

This section beat me down a bit between dry water source after dry water source, endless riparian schwackin, convoluted canyon navigation, mud deeper and slicker than anything I’ve experienced resulting in painful falls, a lost headlamp, and creepy crawlies at night, but was also the most rewarding hiking I have ever done. As old Ed used to say “When traces of blood begin to mark your trail you’ll see something, maybe.”

Headed over the Henry’s after leaving hanksville and slept (really just shivered) in a mouse infested radio shack on the high point of the route. Enjoyed the maze of tarantula mesa and steep entrance. Opted to take the baker route and stevens canyon to get around the escalante river slog, and tossed in a wade/swim through the halls creek narrows as I was passing by. Made my way down Steven’s canyon after ascending the baker route up to the crest of the water pocket fold through a series of shoots and ladders made up of wind gate sandstone rim walking and ascending/descending weaknesses in the canyon to allow passage down to the escalante river and coyote gulch. Spent my last night of the section in a lovely cave in coyote gulch where I slept soundly until I woke up with a scorpion crawling on my pad. by @bensupron

Needles Outpost -> rt 95 into Hanksville

Turned off the official route after the Needles to go through the Maze. One highlight from this section was a guided rafting party took me in for dinner and breakfast before shuttling me across the Colorado the next morning with a sandwich for lunch in hand and water bottles filled with fresh water. Was pretty darn hot the last few days but still made it through a 45 mile water carry with a smile on my face by @bensupron

Started another long walk yesterday on the ~800 mile Hayduke Route going from Arches to Zion. Couldn’t be more stoked for the challenges that lay ahead. Much love to the friends that got me out here ❤️ by @bensupron

My family came out to celebrate my triple crown at pine grove furnace state park on the AT. I started walking here May of 2021 thinking | was going on a weekend backpacking trip and ended up walking to Maine with some of my best friends. In the time since then I have thru hiked ~8500 miles.
Feeling blessed for all my family and ribbons of dirt have done for me. Also halfway done with this trail just over 30 days in averaging over 36 miles per day. Goal is to keep having fun aaaand get er done in under two months by @bensupron
