Been so busy with work and setting up the shop (@futuredazevintage opening this Friday in Los Angeles), that I almost let it go unremarked upon that I finally picked up one of the shirts I’ve been lusting after for a long time. This is Seam’s promo for their THE PROBLEM WITH ME album from 1993. I look forward to wearing it to Ee this Saturday night at Zebulon.

Another one. This also belongs to my wife and, like the shirt got from the same show, I need to restore this. Artwork is by Taz and it’s numbered to 400. It’s going to get a linen-backing and a frame so it can be properly displayed. taken in Santa Monica Civic Auditorium by @bentclouds_has_stuff

My wife likes to remind me that’s she’s pretty cool and has been cool for a long time. Let this be another exhibit in the museum of cool that is my wife @futuredazevintage. This is her poster for the Ramones/Deborah Harry/Tom Tom Club from Irvine Meadows Amphitheater. Signed and dated Kozik 90.

It’s always a sentimental journey going through a bin of old shirts that you haven’t put eyes on in a few years. Not sure which ones of these to pull and try to work back into the wardrobe and which to maybe part with. Pretty sure the Pixies and Ramones are definitely coming out (those are both my wife’s). by @bentclouds_has_stuff

Caught this big fish, er frog, the other day and I’m excited to have it in hand and now on body. This is Failure’s promo shirt for their 1994 classic MAGNIFIED and it’s long sleeve, single stitch and blue (I think they’re almost always green). I’ve been looking for a FANTASTIC PLANET shirt for some time at a good price but I absolutely couldn’t pass up this one at what I would characterize as a very good price. Failure is never far from my mind as someone taking a big leap with my wife and opening a brick and mortar shop in what I would say is not a terribly robust economy, but I have faith in our taste and I have a lot of trust in my wife’s tremendous knowledge of the game. I might even wear this shirt as an ironic talisman on opening day this Friday, to try to ward off bad juju.

Hey, it’s PJ Harvey’s birthday and I’m still in Sf, here’s a quick collection post.

I think this is the first PJ Harvey shirt? From 1992, Polly in the middle, with Rob Ellis (drums) and Steve Vaughan (bass) on either side. #

Early FOTL tag

Promo shirt from her “Sheela-Na-Gig” single from DRY. This shirt is also 1992.

RID OF ME from 1993. Lovely portrait by Maria Mochnacz.

Again best FOLT tag, this is a Medium that fits like a Large.

“50FT QUEENIE” promo shirt from 1993. Love her pose on this shirt.

Faded out tag, not sure what tag this was.

Super saturated PJ portrait shirt from TO BRING YOU MY LOVE era, photo by Maria Mochnacz. Shirt from 1995, one of her best shirts.

TO BRING YOU MY LOVE shirt from 1995 with the cover image. Really large front print. This was the first band shirt I ever bought.

This is the back of a Live/PJ Harvey/Big Audio Dynamite lot tee from 1995. This shirt has a crazy fade.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds shirt for MURDER BALLADS, but it features PJ Harvey on it, so I’m including it here. It’s from a Japan tour in 1995. One of my favorite tees in my collection.

In SF today and so I couldn’t help but visit @vacationsf. Love this store and the wonderful people who run it. Amazing pieces everywhere, naturally I mostly focused my lens on the shirts but really there wasn’t a corner that didn’t have something great that I wanted. Ended up getting only a 60s pin for The Fugs but next time I’m in town I want to check out the glories of their ‘by appointment only’ barn. taken in San Francisco, California by @bentclouds_has_stuff

Seeing Thinking Fellers Union Local 282 tonight in San Francisco. So I thought I’d take the opportunity to show off my collection of their shirts.

First I have the electric brain, which I have in black and also in white (not pictured, sorry). This was the first TGUL282 shirt I ever found. It’s early 90s from the tag, it doesn’t really align directly to any album, the vibe is a goofy riff on a union local emblem, which matches the band’s absurdist humor. My black tee is very fine condition and my white one is crazy distressed and I’m pretty sure I’m going to leave it that way.

Early 90s FOTL tag.

This is my most recent TFUL282 pick up. The graphics make me think this might have been aligned with the release of their masterpiece EP ADMONISHING THE BISHOPS. This was from an auction in Japan that I somehow figured out how to bid on by proxy and finally get shipped to my house. A circuitous route to get this shirt but I’d never seen it before.

Back of shirt. Pretty sure that’s the devil that’s coming to get you from “Father” off ADMONISHING THE BISHOPS.

This shirt is also on my favorite early 90s tag, the paper FOTL, which always fits long and big.

This one is pretty eye catching with its grotesque, big ass having creature pooping our musical notes. Feller filler for the toilet you might say.

Back features an odd hand-drawn creature as well. This one’s a little friendlier. I got this shirt second, soon after getting the first electric brain shirt, and it ripped as soon as I put it on. I just had the rip repaired and I washed it and promptly ripped it again when I was hanging it up. It isn’t dry rot, I’ve tried multiple times to rip the hem, but it does seem fragile, so I’m going to wear and handle it sparingly.

Late 80s, early 90s Hanes Beefy tag. Never really loved these blanks.

TFUL282 drag racing car. I’d never seen this one until it showed up in a @nic_fit haul post a few months back and O immediately moved to grab it. Again, not really sure this aligns with a specific album, it’s a fun, seemingly random, graphic.

On the mid 90s Gildan Heavy Weight blank.

I HOPE IT LANDS promo shirt. Simple orange rendering of the cover art. Print is thick and crackin taken in San Francisco, California by @bentclouds_has_stuff

Also from @thrift_con. I find that as a rule, you can never go wrong buying vintage Lou Reed and so I was very excited to grab this 1970s Lou Reed shirt with his SALLY CAN’T DANCE cover pose, originally drawn by artist David Edward Byrd. I bought this for my store because this is the kind of cool shit I want to have for the people coming in. Not sure if everyone will be wowed by this shirt but I can tell you that I’ll enjoy looking at it every day and be bummed when it sells. My store, which I’m opening with my wife, whose taste and knowledge of vintage outpaces mine considerably, by the way, is @futuredazevintage and hopefully it will be celebrating its grand opening in the next couple of weeks, once we get everything priced and looking pretty.

Another find at this year’s @thrift_con and I have to say that I’ve been after this shirt for some time now. It’s the BAD LIEUTENANT promo shirt with a naked and zonked out Harvey Keitel having an existential crisis. I don’t think I’d ever even noticed the other characters in the lettering below, the image of Keitel is just so powerful. Abel Ferrara is having a bit of a career renaissance with the release of his new memoir SCENE, the menacing performance in MARTY SUPREME and the feature collection on the Criterion Channel. BAD LIEUTENANT is also getting a third installment, this time in Japan and directed by Takashi Miike. BAD LIEUTENANT: TOKYO, I hope it lives up to BAD LIEUTENANT: PORT OF CALL NEW ORLEANS that Herzog made back in 2009 which has one of my favorite Nicolas Cage performances. Thanks to @ihaterosebowl for giving me this wonderful shirt at a fair price. I will wear it to church with much grace in my heart.

NFS. Best tag: that early 90s FOTL that always fits just right (long).

Another obscure hip hop grail that I picked up from ThriftCon yesterday, this is a promo shirt for the soundtrack for Spike Lee’s CROOKLYN. The front is the very recognizable title font but, for me, the back is the really exciting part because it’s explicitly promoting The Crooklyn Dodgers, the supergroup with Masta Ace, Special Ed and Buckshot Shorty, produced by A Tribe Called Quest. The Crooklyn Dodgers name released two singles in two years, this one for the CROOKLYN soundtrack and then the following year a new lineup of Chubb Rock, O.C. and Jeru the Damaja for the CLOCKERS soundtrack. I didn’t even know a Crooklyn Dodgers shirt existed, so needless to say I couldn’t pull the money out of my wallet fast enough.

NFS. I also have both singles on vinyl and this isn’t going anywhere. Do any other Crooklyn Dodgers shirts exist? @raptees
