This talk examines how Iranian musicians have turned to intercultural collaborations—since the aftermath of the 1979 Revolution and into the present—as a way to connect with the wider world. Through examples from Iran and its diaspora, it explores whether these encounters reflect modernization, inclusiveness, or both, and considers the line between cultural exoticism and genuine artistic exchange.

Director Spotlight: Hamoun Dolatshahi
This Friday, we’re excited to screen Nothing But the Truth, directed by Hamoun Dolatshahi, a rising voice in Iranian/Kurdish diaspora cinema.

Currently completing his MFA in Directing and Producing at UCLA, Hamoun blends art with advocacy—using film to reflect the complexity of identity, culture, and community. His body of work spans short films, music videos, and TV, including time on the set of the A24/Netflix hit BEEF.

A passionate community organizer, Hamoun’s commitment to immigrant and refugee justice is central to his storytelling. Nothing But the Truth is a humanist reflection of belonging, truth, and cultural navigation.

🎥 Join us Friday to witness his work and celebrate films that move beyond the screen. taken in Beer Sheva Park by @bentfigmedia

Director Spotlight: Mohammed Almughanni

This Friday, we’re honored to screen “An Orange from Yaffa”, a powerful film by Gaza-born director and screenwriter Mohammed Almughanni.

Born in 1994 from Gaza and now based in Poland, Almughanni’s work boldly confronts themes of racial justice and the human cost of war. A graduate of the prestigious Łódź Film School, his storytelling has earned international acclaim at IDFA (2023), Ji.hlava (2020), and Clermont-Ferrand (2024).

An Orange from Yaffa is more than a film; it’s a testament to resilience, identity, and the voices often unheard.

Join us Friday for this unforgettable screening and a celebration of bold, urgent cinema. taken in Beer Sheva Park by @bentfigmedia

Thank you once again to our friends at @menaheritagemonth, @seattleparksandrec, and @seattleparksfoundation for helping make this year’s programming a success! We have some special surprises as we wind down this year’s Summer Movie Festival. You don’t want to miss it!

‼️IMPORTANT NOTE: We’ve adjusted our start time to align with later sunsets and decrease waiting times. Films will start once the sun has set OR when our projector screen becomes visible whichever is sooner.

Be sure to arrive early to lay out your blankets, jam out to some pre show music, and hear from the people who make this happen. Who knows? Maybe a very special character might join us to speak before the screening?👀

Which film are you excited to see the most?
