Won gold in my first Jiu Jitsu competition. 182lb Novice Division with all victories by submission. I have been training 3-5x a week for 8 months now, and it has been one of the best decisions of my life. I would like to thank all the higher belts I train with daily who tune me up and force me to crush my ego and build my character.

I wrestled for 7 years and stopped abruptly towards end of high school. I never thought I’d step back on the mats but @ntribelli inspired me over these last few years. Having him corner me and to share victory again with him on the mats was awesome. Going to keep training hard and be a good BJJ teammate and see where this journey takes me. taken in DCU Center by @bentribelli

Life is not an easy path. There are so many things out of our control, yet, we are the scribers of our lives. As we grow older and step into adult responsibilities, we notice the evils around us. Jobs we do not want to work, decisions that must be made, the looming shadow of corruption, the temptation of moral compromise, the pressure to progress. Above all, we learn that we are all capable of being evil, we all feel pain, and we learn how to inflict onto others. We as humans are quite good at that, thinking it may bring us some retribution, but it is never the right decision, because it never does.

All my life I have had an innate calling to dedicate all of my potential to another. A partner to be there through the journey, someone I can hold myself accountable for. Someone who is invested as I am, knowing that there can be purity in the tragedies that life will surely convey. My will is concrete, I am unwavering. I feel no greater fulfillment than knowing through my thoughts, actions, and decisions, I can alleviate the suffering of life for another individual. I will do everything in my power to make this life better for you. taken in Umpachene Falls by @bentribelli

405 Beltless for 6

My best is 425 for 7 a few years ago with a belt, and weighing a lot more. Looking to see what I can do without a belt in months to come.

Smith RDLs, Zercher Splits, Hams and Calves. Also 10 minutes of assault bike conditioning every Sunday to finish off legs and quads. Just training. by @bentribelli

Wedding officiator doesn’t show up on your perfectly planned Florida destination dream venue? No worries, just call your boy Ben. He will slap a headset on and guide this wedding to victory like nothing ever happened in an amazon polo bought the day before the flight.

Had an amazing experience officiating @tyfieri_ and @julieconnelll ‘s wedding. Tyler has been one of my greatest friends for the last 10 years and I couldn’t have been happier to be the makeshift minister for the night. A beautiful wedding witnessed with a beautiful girl @molly._margaret Enjoy the pictures and the Patrick Swayze-esque walk up front and center. taken in Plant City, Florida by @bentribelli

Sunday Legs, Core, and Conditioning

How do you recover after your long runs? Well, I train. Recovery is a term that has become glamorized through passive methods and money grabs. We want to lay down and have work done on us. We want to take a pill, follow a magic diet, or have some sort of entity take responsibility for recovery instead of ourselves doing the effort required to get us to baseline, or raise our capacity so we don’t have to take a big step back when we over stimulate.

I tell this line to all my athletes and myself over the years. “Recovery is a direct correlation to the stimulus that we make through our training decisions.” Every stimulus has a cost, and the real difference between an athlete who stays in the game vs. the ones who “go hard” for a month or two is their ability to conceptualize and apply stress management. Everything is stress, choose wisely my friends. by @bentribelli

30 Mile Ultra Marathon
4500 feet of elevation gain

@jelia.jpg sent me the link to 8 Hours at the Farm, an event that is a 4.2 mile trail loop, with 650 feet of elevation gain per loop. I managed to complete 7 loops in 7:30. This was one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life. Halfway through had the worst leg cramps I've ever had and thought I was going to need leg amputations. Stayed the course and turned it around mentally, and the goal for today was to not quit. I learned a lot, and this was a humbling experience. Everybody gangster til it's time to run 30+ miles in crazy terrain.

There was shaky bridges, places that were straight up vertically, loose rocks, thousands of tree roots, and very minimal flat parts.  29 degrees starting at 8am, with the last 4 hours at around a crisp 50.

Lastly, thank you to my amazing girlfriend Molly, for providing tons of support today, and the last few months. Onto the next race. taken in Brookfield, Connecticut by @bentribelli

Spartan Beast - Mount Vernon, NJ

15 miles, 33 obstacles, up and down a mountain twice, completed in around 5 hours. Around 3 months ago, my friend James @jelia.jpg called me up asking if I wanted to run this race, I’m not sure exactly what I said, but I started running that very night for it, excited and apprehensive for what was to come.

I trained obsessively for this for the last few months, and the biggest mental battle I’ve had during that time, as well as previous years, was that I am not cut out for endurance anymore. I hadn’t done anything endurance sport wise since 2015, and had poured my life into strength sport for the last 6 years. This race I failed almost no obstacles, and was running along side strong runners with my limited time back to running. Crossing the finish line vindicated my own mind that I am capable of conquering some extreme feats of endurance that I’ve always wanted to challenge myself with. Onto the next race. taken in Mountain Creek by @bentribelli

Train Where You Are At

This is one of the biggest mistakes I have witnessed when it comes to the journey of creating physical goals. I am guilty of this many times in the past. Metrics are great, weight on the bar, pacing a run, weight on the scale, any and all to help you facilitate your goals. These obsessions to progression can be weaponized against the self. We can take the scales, the numbers, the plans, and think of them as absolutes when planning. It creates an unnecessary stressor when we are mentally training at the perceived level of fitness that we want to be, and can create negative emotion when we are not getting there at the rate we desire.

The problem arises that there will always be variables that cannot be accounted for. Any and everything will be thrown your way, and if you do not have the mental stoicism to mediate these feelings when your plan goes into disarray, you will fail. Instead, enjoy the journey. Embrace the pressure of the lows, and be grateful with the highs, they don’t come often when you do the same thing for years and years.

Constantly redlining in training in hopes that it will expedite the process is futile, and detrimental to your progress. Learn to train where your current state is at, learn to auto-regulate days where you feel terrible, and master the ability to micro-adjust when things start to fall apart from the anticipated plan. Remember why you started and know that monotony matters most, that is where you will make consistent trends in the right direction for decades. taken in The TOP Strength Project by @bentribelli
