Joel.

Cornwall, 2025.

We had a new baby. I’d broken my leg. The days were long and everything felt heavier than it should.

I stuck a note up in the village shop looking for someone to walk the dogs. Nothing. Then, weeks later, a text message.

“I’m around. Anytime. Anywhere.”

That was Joel.

And after that he was just there.

Always on time. Never a fuss. Never late.

The dogs knew before we did. They’d hear him coming and lose their minds. Pure joy. You can’t fake that. Dogs always know.
