Zaterdag 19/9 brachten we The Last Resort in het paviljoen Refuge in Waregem.

Een volledige plattegrond van ons resort ontvouwde zich rondom het prachtige paviljoen van kunstenaar Ives Maes, onze video-installatie hing op aan het dak en in het paviljoen zelf brachten we drie keer een monoloog die we schreven voor deze gelegenheid.

REFUGE | finissage

Deze week nemen we afscheid van het REFUGE paviljoen in Waregem. Als afsluiter van het paviljoen nemen we toevlucht in verstilling en observatie. Drie uitgesproken stemmen uit de Europese impro-, jazz- en hedendaagse muziekscène vinden elkaar voor een uniek concert in het REFUGE paviljoen van Ives Maes en Samyra Moumouh. Voor deze bijzondere gelegenheid brengt gitarist en componist Ruben Machtelinckx twee vertrouwde muzikale bondgenoten samen: de Franse percussionist en klankonderzoeker Toma Gouband en de Noorse Hardanger vioolspeler Nils Økland.

Speciaal voor het REFUGE paviljoen ontstaat nu een nieuw trio: een eerste ontmoeting tussen gitaar, Hardanger viool en percussie. De bijzondere architectuur en akoestiek van het paviljoen vormen daarbij niet alleen het decor, maar ook een actieve partner in de muziek. Verwacht een concert waarin compositie en improvisatie, resonantie en stilte, traditie en experiment elkaar voortdurend ontmoeten.

This week marks the final chance to visit the REFUGE Pavilion in Waregem. For the finissage of the pavilion, we find refuge in stillness and observation. Three distinctive voices from the European improv, jazz and contemporary music scenes come together for a unique concert at the REFUGE pavilion, created by Ives Maes and Samyra Moumouh. For this special occasion, guitarist and composer Ruben Machtelinckx brings together two trusted musical allies: the French percussionist Toma Gouband and the Norwegian Hardanger violin player Nils Økland.

A new trio is currently being formed especially for the REFUGE pavilion: a first encounter between guitar, Hardanger violin and percussion. The pavilion’s unique architecture and acoustics not only provide the backdrop but also play an active role in the music. Expect a concert in which composition and improvisation, resonance and silence, tradition and experimentation constantly intertwine.

OPENING | Henk Visch

Afgelopen zaterdag werd de tentoonstelling van Henk Visch, 'Ik was getrouwd met een aap', feestelijk ingewijd.

Voor deze solotentoonstelling in Be-Part Kortrijk liet Henk Visch zich inspireren door de karaktervolle architectuur van de Paardenstallen, een van de laatste bewaarde getuigen van de voormalige brouwerij Tack. De tentoonstelling brengt een selectie van bestaande werken samen met nieuw gerealiseerde sculpturen en tekeningen, die speciaal voor deze context werden ontwikkeld. Hierdoor ontstaat een betekenisvolle dialoog tussen het oeuvre van Visch en de historische omgeving waarin het wordt gepresenteerd.

Designers @corbinmahieu and @verhelstvictor made the graphics for the latest group exhibition by @elderscollectief. Taking place during @kortrijkart, the exhibition showcased beautiful video installations by artists @hamzahalloubi and @jankempenars, alongside two book launches and a series of talks. The exhibition was organised in collaboration with @bepart_platform taken in Kortrijk, West-Vlaanderen, Belgie by @bepart_platform

REFUGE | Activiteiten

Deze week vinden er weer twee Be-Part evenementen plaats in het REFUGE paviljoen in het Park Baron Casier.

Zaterdag brengt playField The Last Resort. Dit is een theatraal parcours waarin de bezoekers zich bewegen langs een route van tekst en beeld. Tijdens dit parcours ontvouwt zich een speculatief hiernamaals. Bij deze interactieve installatie hoort ook een live performance, die drie keer wordt opgevoerd. Om iedere deelnemer een optimale ervaring te bieden, is het aantal plaatsen per performance beperkt Vooraf registreren is daarom noodzakelijk.

Het werk van playField vertrekt vanuit maatschappelijk onderzoek op basis van publieksparticipatie, wetenschappelijke inzichten en veldwerk. De meerstemmigheid van het onderzoek weerspiegelt zich in het werk zelf, dat zich ontvouwt in theaters, tentoonstellingsruimtes en de publieke ruimte

Zondag verwelkomen we Robbert&Frank Frank&Robbert met Earth. Dit is in samenwerking met @ccdeschakel . Earth is een unieke, interactieve voorstelling die werkt als een kaartspel. Vier spelers wekken samen een kosmos tot leven met analoge en digitale middelen: kaarten, krijt, klei, animatie en virtual reality.

Het publiek zit per vier rond een tafel, met in het midden sterrenstof en kaarten. In de tafelrand zijn tekens gegrift die doen denken aan sterrenbeelden en oude schriften. Elke deelnemer krijgt een bolletje zwarte klei: koud en donker, maar vol potentieel. Gaandeweg ontstaat er leven, dialoog en ontdekking. Met subtiele instructies en verbeelding leiden Robbert&Frank Frank&Robbert je naar een plek waar spel, verwondering en verbinding centraal staan.

🌍 Be-Part REFUGE Pavilion: A Conversation with Artists at Risk (AR) Co-directors and AR-Alumna Pamela Tulizo

The newly conceived REFUGE pavilion by Ives Maes commissioned by Be-Part, a Belgian art institute, has invited Artists at Risk (AR)’s co-directors Marita Muukkonen and Ivor Stodolsky for a conversation with and film-screening by the renowned Congolese photographer and AR-Alumna Pamela Tulizo. The discussion will be moderated and translated by Kathleen Weyts.

Tulizo’s powerful photographic practice explores women’s identities and representation, gender inequality, conflict and social justice. From her internationally recognised series Double Identité, Enfer Paradisiaque and Matrice to the founding of Tulizo Elle Space, a cultural and training centre for women and girls in Goma, her work creates space for stories that are too often unheard.

The population of Goma has been under high risk and sustained repression given the war and occupation of the region by the M23 militia, which has furthermore diverted the government of the DRC’s resources from fighting another insurgency in eastern Congo of the ISIS-aligned ADF.

The event is co-hosted, and being held on the occasion of the annual research day of the KASK School of Arts.
